Abstract
1,018,292. Cigarette making machines. K. KÍRBER. April 26, 1962 [Aug. 18, 1961], No. 29885/61. Heading A2C. A control device responsive to air pressure, particularly for testing rod-like tobacco articles, comprises a shaft 7 supported in bearings 8 and carrying a shutter 15 and, arranged perpendicularly to the shutter 15, an impact plate 5 associated with a balance weight 9, and in which a light source 17 is provided on one side of the path of movement of the shutter and on the other side a photo-electric device 16, so that the optical path between the light source and the photo-electric device may be interrupted by the shutter 15 and wherein an air jet from a nozzle 4 is directed towards the plate 5 so that movement of the shutter 15 is dependent on the air jet. The shaft 7 is biased by a spring 10 so that when the air issuing from the nozzle 4 is normal the shutter obstructs the light path. In operation the nozzle 4 is the outlet for an air stream flowing through cigarettes during testing. If the air pressure through the nozzle 4 is reduced due to the presence of faulty cigarettes the shutter rotates clockwise, light is permitted to pass to the photo-electric device 16 and a control operation is effected, e.g. rejection of the faulty cigarette. In an alternative embodiment a suction nozzle may replace the nozzle 4.
