Abstract

<PICT:1016920/C6-C7/1> An electrolytic cell for producing aluminium in a fused bath contained in a cathodic pot 1 with anodes 2 carried by vertically movable rods 7 arranged in rows has a fixed current conducting frame 3 spanning the pot from one end to the other, and each rod is suspended from the frame through an independently releasable coupling 15 and a mechanism for causing it to move vertically, e.g. by being detachably clamped to a conducting plate 8 fixed to a rack 9 engaging a pinion 11, and is individually electrically connected to the frame through a flexible conductor 10, whereby the rod can be lifted until the anodes are clear of the bath while still electrically connected to the frame and while other anodes in the row are still dipped in the bath.
