Abstract

A powder mixture for spray or fusion coatings comprises: (1) from 4-90% of an alloy containing: .Cr.7-40% .B.1.5-5.0% .Si.1.0-5.5% .Mo.0-30% .W.0-30% .Cu.0-8% .C.up to 0.1% the balance being at least one of the metals Fe, Co or Ni and (2) 96-10% of one or more carbides of the IVth, Vth or VIth Group of the Periodic Table which are under-carburized by 5-10% in relation to their stoichiometric composition. The mixture may be sppayed on to steel or nickel alloy bases and preferably has a grain size of 0.03-0.2 mm. The spraying may be carried out by oxy-acetylene, oxygen-hydrogen or plasma-arc spraying.
