Abstract

1,016,043. Ventilating vehicles; cooling motor vehicle engines. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1964 [March 9, 1963], No. 9466/63. Headings F4U and F4V. A motor vehicle heating and ventilating system comprises a radiator 3 having separate sections 3a and 3b connected in parallel for engine coolant and a valve 41 for directing part or all of the air flowing over section 3a to the passenger space, the air flowing over section 3b being ducted directly to the exterior of the vehicle. As shown in Fig. 1, sections 3a, 3b have respective headers 9, 11 connected to outlets 17, 21 in the vehicle engine, outlet 17 being arranged to supply coolant to section 3a at all times and outlet 21 having a thermoresponsive valve 25 which opens to supply coolant section 3b when the temperature reaches a predetermined value. The radiator is supplied with air by a fan 39 (Fig. 2) disposed adjacent a forwardly directed inlet 35. Heated air from section 3a and unheated air from a valve controlled by-pass duct 33 pass to a distribution box 332 in the passenger space via a duct 29, the box having outlets leading to the windscreen and to other parts of the vehicle interior and valve means for apportioning the air between the outlets (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).
