Abstract
1,015,428. Boiler furnaces. O. BERGER. Sept. 21, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961], No. 36037/62. Heading F4B. Liquid or gaseous fuel and air are injected at 2 into an elongated box-shaped combustion chamber 1 at one end, parallel to a long side of the chamber so that the housing fuel is deflected by two opposing long sides and the end walls of the combustion chamber to form a vortex contacting these walls, and the waste gases escape at the end of the combustion chamber near the burner or from a long side of the chamber not contacted by the vortex. In a boiler having a burner 2 mounted on a door 5 closing a water-jacketed box-shaped combustion chamber, the gases flow round the burner 2 within a recess formed on the inside of the door to smoke tubes 3 extending lengthwise of the combustion chamber. In a modification, Fig. 3, not shown, the waste gases flow to lengthwise flue tubes through a recess in the door without flowing round the burner. In a further embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6, the waste gases flow from one long side of the combustion chamber through flue tubes 3 extending at right angles to the direction of delivery of the burner 2. Water tubes 9 are arranged to form a grate for combustion of solid fuel at the bottom of the combustion chamber.
