Abstract

1,014,112. Cable attachments. BRITISH ROPES Ltd. Oct. 13,1964 [Nov. 20, 1963], No. 45859/63. Heading D1T. To secure an end fitting 2 to multilayer cable, successive layers are removed to form a stepped formation that in then inserted into a correspondingly stepped bore of the fitting 2, the fitting being then compressed out the cable. The fitting 2 may have a uniform external diameter or be stepped externally as shown. The sleeves 11,12 may be fitted to prevent subsequent distortion. The process may be employed for fitting terminals as illustrated or for end to end joining of ropes or strands. The wire engaging the fitting may be coated with silicon carbide crystals or other abrasive to improve frictional retention.
