Abstract
Thermoplastic graft polymers are made by polymerizing a mixture of (a) a polybutadiene latex having an average particle size of 0.2 to 2.0 microns and having a gel content of at least 75%, and (b) styrene, or a mixture thereof with acrylonitrile containing at least 50% by weight of styrene, the proportions of (a) and (b) being such that the resulting graft polymer contains 5 to 40% by weight of polybutadiene. Polybutadiene latices of the required particle size are made by the emulsion polymerization of butadiene in the presence of relatively small quantities of water and emulsifier. The resulting graft polymers yield mouldings of high surface gloss. Specification 840,153 is referred to.
