Abstract

1,012,035. Feeding sheets. G. SPIESS. April 21, 1964, No. 16407/64. Heading B6B. Sheets are separated from the top of a stack by a pair of suction nozzles 5 each of which is connected by an arm 10 to a cross-shaft 8 mounted rotatably in a pair of arms 12 secured to a shaft 13, the shafts 8 and 13 being rocked about their axes by cam means, and the arms 10 and 12 forming part of the suction conduit to the nozzles. One nozzle 5 is arranged to have a greater or lesser range of movement than the other nozzle by attaching it to a lever 17 which is connected by a pull-rod 18 to a pivot 19 which can be raised or lowered along the length of the arm 12. Fig. 5 shows the separating and the forward positions of the adjustable nozzle 5, and the pivot 19 is above the axis of the cross-shaft 8, whereby this nozzle has a longer feed travel than the opposite nozzle. If the pivot 19 is positioned lower than the axis of the shaft 8, the travel of the nozzle is shortened. As described, the pivot 19 is carried by a slide which has screw-thread engagement with a screw on a mounting attached to one arm 12, and this screw can be adjusted whilst the sheet separator is operating.
