101,185. MacLaurin, J. March 29, 1916. Affixing by adhesives.--In machines for affixing sealing-tape, the roll of tape 16 is adapted to act as the affixing-roller. The roll 16 is carried by a shaft 15 mounted in a frame 13 pivoted at 14 in the body 10 of the machine, which is manipulated by a handle 11, and the frame is automatically rocked downwards step by step as the diameter of the roll of tape decreases, sufficiently to allow a roller 30 to strike the surface to which the tape is to be affixed. A spur 25 on the frame engages with teeth both on a fixed rack 26 and a rack 33 carried by a lever 31; when the lever 31 is rocked by the roller 30 the rack 33 pulls down the frame 13 until the spur 25 engages and is locked by the next tooth of the rack 26. A roller 21, which presses on the roll of tape under the action of a spring, is carried by a yoke 20 slidable in the frame 13. The tape passes through a slot 38 in the body 10 and is severed by a cutter 39 operated manually by means of a lever 42 adjacent the handle 11. The surface to which the tape is to be affixed is wetted by a pad 43, which precedes the roll 16.
