Heading F2F. A braking system particularly for motor vehicles in which pressure medium supplied by a source 9 operates the brakes connected to port 23 and in which pressure medium from a master cylinder 3 acts on a brake valve control piston 28 to permit pressure medium from the source to operate the brakes and a piston 49 spring-loaded in a casing 7 is characterized in that the chamber 47 communicates with the chamber 20 of the master cylinder via passage 46 and with a reservoir 14 via passages 48, 15 in the piston and casing, while the chamber 50 communicates with the chamber 53 which is pressurized by the master cylinder to actuate the piston 28. As shown, two sets of brake valves and control pistons actuating separate brake lines are provided, fluid pressure from the master cylinder moving both pistons 28 to the right to move valve piston 26 and thereby allow fluid pressure from the pumpfilled reservoir 9 to flow via passage 36, open valve 34, chamber 38 and passages 39, 40 to the brakes. If the pressure fails to build up in the chamber 53 by the master cylinder a tappet 56 rigidly connected to the master cylinder piston strikes a surface 61 on a cut-away tube 57 to rotate the same which through surface 62 moves the control pistons 28 to open the brake valves and so actuate the brakes.
