Abstract

1,011,520. Driving magnetic drums. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO. Ltd. Aug. 2, 1962 [June 17, 1961], No. 21966/61. Heading G5R. [Also in Division F2] Four magnetic data storage drums are mounted end-to-end within fixed cylindrical housings 1 . . . 4 secured together by spacing sleeves 10 &c. and mounted on rubber supports 6, 7, a simple spring universal joint (see Division F2) between each adjacent pair of shafts carrying the drums allowing slight axial misalignment between the drums but no lost motion, a single electric motor within the specing sleeve 10 driving all four drums and having an eddy current brake associated with its rotor.
