[Also in Division B7] A hatch covering including a leaf (in Fig. 1, two leaves 30), mounted on a pivot 10 for rotation from a closed position overlying a hatch to an open position clear of the hatch, the leaf comprising at least two cover sections 1, 1a, coupled to one another (by hinges 6) rotatably about an axis parallel to the pivot of the leaf, has one or more springs 15 so coupled to the pivot so as to tend to bias the leaf to its closed position, and one or more counterweights 12 so coupled to the pivot as to tend to bias the leaf to its open position, the operative moment of the leaf about the pivot being counterbalanced by the moment of the counterweight(s) about the pivot when the leaf approaches its closed position, and the difference between the said moments being eliminated by the action of the spring(s) over a range of positions of the leaf intermediate its open and closed position. The covers can be lifted by handles 7.
