Abstract
1,010,841. Abrading. TURNERS (EYRE STREET) Ltd. July 17, 1963 [July 17, 1962], No. 14835/62. Heading B3D. A machine for abrading, polishing or the like the curved edges of cutlery, forks, or spoons comprises an abrasive band 10 partially encircling a contact wheel 12 which is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis, supported on ball-bearings 20 at its lower end, and has a diameter smaller than the outside diameters of the bearings. The contact wheel 12 has collars 16, 18 and is supported for rotation about the vertical axis by the bearings 20 in a bracket 22 telescopically received in a member 26 and slidable between adjustable screws in angle pieces 44. A spring 28 acts to apply tension to the band which engages a pulleydriven roller 14 and an idler roller 30 carried by an arm 32 adjustably clamped to the member 26; the roller 30 can be adjusted to rotate in different vertical planes to adjust the vertical height at which the band passes around the contact wheel 12. A rest 36 is located adjacent the member 12 to support a workpiece with its curved edge engaged by the abrasive band.
