Abstract

A method of condensing zinc vapour obtained by reduction of oxidic zinc material comprises passing the vapours through a pre-condenser operating at a temperature of 770-820 DEG C. and then through a zinc-splash main condenser operating at 450-560 DEG C., the condensates from the two stages being removed separately. The precondenser may also be of the zinc-splash type. An intermediate condenser, which may also be of the zinc-splash type, may be inserted between the pre- and main-condensers, the temperature therein being from 20-50 DEG C. lower than that in the pre-condenser.
