Abstract

1,009,581. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. HELICOPTER SALES Ltd. June 22, 1964 [July 10, 1963], No. 27315/63. Heading F1R. [Also in Divisions A4 and B7] A system for refuelling aircraft comprises pressure supply means adapted to be carried by the aircraft and having an outlet terminating in a first quick release coupling associated with a mating quick release coupling on a gas pressure connected to a refuelling or storage tank, an outlet from said refuelling or storage tank for receiving a fuel feed pipe terminating in a second quick release coupling associated with a second mating quick release coupling connected, by a refuelling pipe, to the aircraft fuel tank. The aircraft, specifically a helicopter 1, carries a bottle 6 of pressure gas and a fuel tank 2 respectively connected by conduits 9, 4 to quick release connectors 10, 11 mounted on a support plate 13. Mating connectors 18, 12, mounted on a plate 21, are connected by conduits 17, 16 to a fuel tank 14, which may be used on land or float on water. An earthing and lifting cable 22 connects plate 21 to tank 14. In operation, with the helicopter hovering, the plate 21 and connectors 18, 12, are picked up by the helicopter and the respective connectors 18, 10 and 12, 11 brought together. A valve 8 is opened to supply pressure gas through conduits 9, 17 to tank 14, thereby pressurising the tank and forcing fuel through conduits 16, 4 to tank 2.
