Abstract

1,008,917. Door operating appliances. WESTLAND ENGINEERS Ltd. Dec. 10, 1964 [Dec. 11, 1963], No. 48848/63. Heading E2M. An up and over door or a multi-articulated panel door (not shown) is partly counterbalanced in the closed position by at least one vertically arranged tension spring 9 adjacent the door opening, the door and spring being interconnected via a flexible member, e.g. a cable 15, and a motion reducing device, e.g. a pulley arrangement 20, which has a ratio of at least 2:1. A radius arm 4 helps to guide the door. During installation, a pin may be put through holes 16 in the cover 8 and hole 13 in the pulley block to hold the spring in a stretched condition. The spring 9 may comprise two springs, one disposed within the other. Various pulley arrangements are shown in Figs. 4-8 (not shown).
