Abstract

1,008,598. Packages. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. Sept. 13, 1963 [Sept. 14, 1962], No. 36223/63. Headings B8C and B8P. A package is formed of a pair of cartons 10, 11 of plastic-coated paper-board joined by a handle strip 12 of flexible material, e.g. polyester or paper, in both cases coated with a thermoplastic material. Alternatively, the strip 12 may be itself of thermoplastic material. The ends of the strip 12 are heat-sealed to the adjoining parts of the cartons, thereby holding the cartons together. The strip 12 may have a slot or a line of perforations, Fig. 2 (not shown), extending longitudinally, so that the cartons may be separated by grasping their lower ends and pulling outwards to tear the handle in half. The strip may be printed or coloured.
