Abstract

1,008,477. Aircraft ejection equipment. MINISTER OF AVIATION. Aug. 17, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 32447/63. Heading B7G. An aircraft ejection seat is fitted with an unfurlable blind, for covering the upper part of an aviator's body, coupled with unfurling means mounted on the seat. The blind is stowed (Fig. 1) in a container 12 and its leading edge 13 is fixed to a tube 18 having a longitudinal slit by which it is held on a cross-bar 16. The cross-bar is mounted on arms 14 pivoted on the seat at 15 so that when the blind is pulled down (Fig. 2), by cords 19, the arms pivot forwardly so that the front of the blind is in front of the aviator's head. The cords 19 are stowed in tubes 23, 24, 25 which have longitudinal slits, and they are pulled out of the tubes to unfurl the blind by a reeling-in device operated by the handle 28. The seat may also be fitted with the body-restraining device forming the subject of Specification 1,008,476, also operated by the handle 28, and a plunger 27 may be fitted in the headrest 13, operative to delay unfurling of the blind until the aviator's head is in position.
