Abstract

100,766. Roy, E. D. Jan. 11, 1916, [Convention date]. Adjusting for wear.- A bearing for a rockshaft comprises a split conical sleeve 8 which is pressed by a coiled spring 11 into a conical casinn 7 to take up wear automatically. One end of the spring is secured to a sleeve 9 fixed to the shaft 6, and the other end engages a series of ratchet teeth 13 on the end of the bearing 8. The rocking movement of the shaft changes the tension of the spring, and there is consequently a tendency for the bearing 8 to rotate. A slight rotation takes place from time and time and equalizes the wear. If the sleeve S is in two parts, these are interlocked as shown.
