Abstract

A composition used for making pressure-sensitive transfer sheets (see Division D2) comprises (Example 1) carnauba wax, lanolin, mineral oil and magnetic iron oxide. Specifications 1,000,986 and 1,007,279 are referred Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.ALSO:Compositions used for making pressure-sensitive transfer sheets (see Division D2) comprise: (Example 2) ethylcellulose, lard oil, oleic acid, magnetic iron oxide, a filler and toluene, and (Example 3) ethylcellulose, polyethylene glycol wax, methanol, water and magnetic iron oxide. Specifications 1,000,986 and 1,007,279 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.ALSO:A transfer sheet or ribbon comprises a flexible foundation and a pressure-transferable surface coating which is applied in a single coating operation and comprises a binder and a magnetic pigment which is concentrated in the coating as a stratum distinct from another stratum that is substantially free of magnetic pigment. The stratum of magnetic pigment may be next to the foundation, or on the surface of the coating layer away from the foundation. It may be produced by coating the foundation with a molten or solvent-dispersed composition containing binder and magnetic pigment, passing it over or under a magnet to attract the pigment to the desired position, while the coating is still liquid, and then solidifying the coating by cooling or by evaporating the solvent. If the composition contains also a non-solvent, a blushed surface layer can be produced, to mask the colour of the magnetic pigment. The foundation may be of paper, polyethylene terephthalate or cellulose acetate. The binder may be a wax, which may be mixed with lanolin, petrolatum, ceresia or resinous materials, ethyl-cellulose, which may be mixed with lard oil and oleic acid, or with polyethylene glycol wax, methyl-cellulose, hydroxyethyl-cellulose, cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate, a polymer of vinyl chloride or vinyl acetate or copolymer thereof, polystyrene, polyvinyl stearate, a chlorinated polyphenyl resin, a polybutene, zein, gelatin, starch or carboxymethyl-cellulose. The pigment may be magnetic iron oxide or iron powder or filings. Specifications 1,000,986 and 1,007,279 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.
