Abstract

1,007,156. Immersion heaters. J. C. TAYLOR, and OTTER CONTROLS Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [Nov. 16, 1961], No. 41113/61. Heading H5H. An electric immersion heater of the kind comprising one or more heating elements 2 carried by a head link is adapted to be secured in the wall of a container with at least one terminal 8 carried by a post upstanding from the base of the head is provided with a thermally controlled switch 13 including a generally flat bimetallic actuating strip 14 and a metal mounting bracket 22 having two portions, one portion 25 being adapted to mount the switch on terminal 8 and the other portion connected with bimetal strip 14. The thermostat is fitted over the ends 6 of the elements projecting through the head. Bracket 22 of brass carries brass washers 21 which support bimetal strip 14 and a plastics backing plate 27. Bimetal 14 has a U-shaped cut forming a tongue surrounded by two arms joined adjacent the free end of the tongue by a bridge piece 19 crimped at 20 as in Specification 657,434. The tongue carries a contact 17 which contacts fixed contact 29 on brass alloy plate 30, carried by plate 27, to which is joined terminal 31. An extension 23 on bracket 22 carries a backstop 24. A casing 32 may be provided. Adjustment for operating temperature may be made by a knob 36 and a screw 35 which alter the stress in bimetal strip 14 as in Specification 774,911.
