Abstract
1,006,439. Change-speed and clutch control. G. STAUB. July 10, 1962 [July 10, 1961; Feb. 28, 1961], No. 26517/62. Headings F2D and F2L. [Also in Division B7] In a power cultivator having a handle which may be turned round about a vertical axis, a control lever 125 on the handle is connected through an intermediate lever 138 pivoting at a point on the turning axis of the handle to an operating block 142 displaceable in two mutually perpendicular directions to effect gear changes, reversing and declutching for steering of one of pneumatic-tyred or metal driving wheels 11. An engine 1 is coupled by a centrifugal clutch to a primary shaft 23 (Fig. 4) formed with pinions 27, 28. A gearwheel 52 splined to a sleeve 54 is slidable into engagement with the pinion 27 or into a position wherein dogs 52 thereon engage a gearwheel 36 meshing with the pinion 28, whereby a gearwheel 55 on the sleeve 54 may be driven at either of two speeds. Surrounding the primary shaft 23 is a sleeve 74 having splined thereon a gearwheel 72 slidable either into engagement with the gearwheel 55 or a reverse pinion (not shown) meshing therewith to provide two speeds in either direction, into a neutral position or into a position wherein internal teeth 81 thereon engage the pinion 27 to provide a high forward ratio. A worm 75 on the sleeve 74 meshes with a wormwheel 89 (Fig. 8) which is rigid with one driving wheel 11 and may be selectively coupled to the other by a dog clutch 94 controlled by lateral movements of the operating block 142 through a fork 96. Longitudinal displacements of the operating block 142 are transmitted to the sliding gearwheel 72 by a fork 83 (Fig. 4) mounted on a sliding shaft 84 engaging the block by means of flats 143. By laterally displacing the operating block 142 so that a projection 145 (Fig. 8) thereon engages a sliding shaft 64, longitudinal displacements of the block are transmitted to the sliding gearwheel 52 by means of the shaft 64 and a lever 60 (Fig. 4) connected thereto. The intermediate lever 138 has a ball head 141 engaging a recess in the operating block 142 and engages by means of a ball head 137 with an end piece 134 on a rod 123 which extends through the handle 6 and is connected to the control lever 125 so that longitudinal movement of the control lever causes axial movement of the rod 123 and longitudinal movement of the control block 142, and lateral movement of the control lever causes rotation of the rod 123 and lateral displacement of the control block 142. A power take-off 38 can be coupled to the gear-wheel 36 by a dog clutch 41 controlled by a rod 22 and an auxiliary power take-off 29 is provided on the primary shaft 23. In another embodiment (Figs. 12 and 13, not shown) both driving wheels are coupled to the worm-wheel by spring-loaded dog clutches disengaged separately or simultaneously by lateral movement of the operating block, and gear changes are effected by a separate control. Sliding gear-wheels may be provided to give more than two speeds. The intermediate lever 138 may be connected to the handle or the operating block to be pivotable about one axis only and may be rotatable about its axis by means of the handle.
