Abstract
1,004,476. Capacitors. M. MOHANLAL, P. M. JHAVERI, S. M. JHAVERI, and N. M. JHAVERI, [trading as M. MOHANLAL & CO.]. April 6, 1962 [April 29, 1961], No. 13330/62. Heading H 1M. In a capacitor comprising a sheet of mica 1 (Fig. 2) with a coating of metal, e.g. silver, 2 on each surface, terminal conducting wires 3 are attached to the coatings by layers of solder including, e.g. 30 to 75% tin, 25 to 70% lead and 0.125 to 5% silver by weight, which is applied by dipping the coated sheet 1 and the wires 3 in molten solder whilst the wires are held in place by wooden, or aluminium, tongs. The silver may be applied to the mica by coating its surfaces with a mixture of silver oxide, lacquer and a binder, and heating it to reduce the oxide to metal and dissipate the lacquer and binder. The capacitor may comprise a stack of mica sheets with silver coatings on their surfaces arranged to effect a series connection, the two outermost coatings having terminal wires attached thereto by solder. Alternatively, the capacitor may comprise a stack of mica sheets 5 (Fig. 3) having silver coatings which extend around their ends as at 7 and are separated by gaps 8 to effect parallel connection with terminal wires 9 through layers of solder 10. The capacitor may be encapsulated in resin (not shown).
