Abstract

1,001,440. Sawings. SHER POWER TOOLS PTY. Ltd. May 5, 1964 [May 15, 1963], No. 18557/64. Heading B5L. A sawbench assembly comprises male and female box-like components 7, 8 closely fitting in telescopic relationship and each consisting essentially of five substantially rectangular faces and one open face, the lower 7 of the components being adapted to be mounted with its open face uppermost on a supporting base 9 so as to be slidable thereon, and the other component 8 fitting over the lower component with its open face lowermost whereby the outside surface of the face opposite the open side of the upper component forms a flat table the height of which is adjustable by changing the amount of telescoping of the components. The lower component is formed with slotted fins 10 whereby it is adjustably secured by screw 11 to the supporting base. One or more of the side faces 14 of the upper component is provided with slots which co-operate with screws and threaded apertures in the lower component to provide means for adjusting the vertical position of the upper component on the lower. A cylindrical guide sleeve depends from the lower surface of the upper surface 13 of the upper component and receives a cylindrical bar 16 upstanding from the lower surface of the lower component; a spring on the cylindrical bar acts against the sleeve to urge the upper component upwardly when the screws securing the components together are released. The upper surface 13 of the component 8 is formed with a slot 22 for a circular saw 23 which is mounted on the spindle 20 of an electric tool, such as an electric drill 19 mounted on a supporting bracket 18 adapted to be secured to the supporting base. The height of the surface 13 may be so adjusted that the main lower portion of the saw 23 is within the box assembly. A guard 24 may be pivotally connected to a bracket 25 which is detachably secured to the upper component 8 and may act as a splitter. A detachable rip fence is adjustable along a guide rail fixed by brackets to the upper component. A further guide fence having inclined guides 29, 30 and a depending flange which engages a guide rail 31 may be provided to enable angular cuts to be made. The various parts including the tool may be packed within the box components for storage or transportation. The height of the table may be adjusted so that the shaft of the tool may be used for dowelling, sanding, routing or grooving.
