Abstract

1,000,542. Endless conveyers. UPJOHN CO. June 23, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No. 25918/64. Heading B8A. Articles on an endless conveyer 2 carry labels 3 each of which bears a code pattern, means being provided to compare the pattern with that on a standard label, any container carrying an incorrectly coded label being ejected from the conveyer. A motor 9 rotates a disc 5 in close proximity to each label as the articles successively pass on the conveyer. The disc 5 carries a permanent magnet 10 and a transducer 11. magnetic code strips 4 on the label 3 (see the standard label 3 on panel 14) are caused by the magnet 10 to energize the transducer 11 to produce a series of spaced electric pulses. These are dealt with in logic circuitry which incorporates a suitable time delay, so that an incorrectly labelled article is ejected further downstream by a ram 16. Alternatively, the magnet 10 may be replaced by a source of heat and the transducer 11 is then responsive to heat radiation.
