Description
The present invention relates to the supplementation of insect feed, in particular farmed insects.
Entomoculture, namely the breeding of insects, on an industrial scale, has emerged for several years as a viable and environmentally sustainable alternative to classic proteins, particularly of animal origin, and also as a source of feed for monogastric farmed animals, particularly pigs and poultry, as well as for fish in aquaculture. This production uses few resources, especially in water, food and space, it releases only few greenhouse gases, the result is a significantly reduced ecological footprint compared to traditional protein production. Insects are also capable of feeding on organic waste, and their droppings loaded with nitrogen are effective agronomic fertilizers, which further enhances their interest. In human or animal food, they are consumed live in certain countries, or dried, or used in the form of flour generally obtained by dehydration then crushing, or extracts such as oils, and constitute a fraction or a food supplement rich in protein, omega-3 and low in lipids.
According to the invention, we are interested in the industrial production of insects and it has been discovered that the introduction of certain compounds into the diet of insects makes it possible to increase their performance in a surprising manner.
By increase in performance according to the invention, we mean an increase in the body biomass yield of insects raised compared to that of insects raised under the same conditions but with a diet not supplemented by an additive of the invention, linked in particular to a gain in weight per insect and/or an acceleration of their reproduction, resulting from better bioavailability of the constituents of their food.
These compounds are analogues of amino acids and proteins, more particularly enzymes. It has indeed been discovered that supplementing insect diets with one or more of the following compounds, 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-4-methylselenobutanoic acid, phytases and enzymes degradation of non-starchy polysaccharides (NSP-ases), leads to better use of the food ration by insects.
Thus, the invention relates to the use of at least one amino acid analogue or a protein as a zootechnical additive for feeding farmed insects, said amino acid analogue being chosen from 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid (HMTBA) and 2-hydroxy-4-methylselenobutanoic acid (HMSeTBA) and the protein being chosen from phytases and NSP-ases.
A titre d’exemples, on peut utiliser un mélange d’enzymes choisi parmi ceux décrits dans les documents WO2009/019335A2 et WO99/57325A2According to one or more variants of the invention, one or both amino acid analogues and/or one or more of said enzymes are used. According to a particular variant, at least 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-4-methylselenobutanoic acid, a phytase and an NSP-ase are used. We can thus consider all possible combinations, and we can use a single one of HMTBA and HMSeTBA, or a mixture of the two amino acid analogues; it is possible to use a phytase or a mixture of phytases and/or an NSP-ase or a mixture of NSP-ases; and of course all these alternatives can be combined. As examples, a mixture of enzymes chosen from those described in documents WO2009/019335A2 and WO99/57325A2 can be used.
Phytases degrade phytates and phytic acid present in plant food sources by hydrolysis of phospho-ester bonds to release mineral phosphorus. There are two subclasses of phytases, differentiated only by the position of the first hydrolyzed phosphate. The 3-phytases (EC 3.1.3.8) hydrolyze the phosphate at position 3 and the 6-phytases (EC 3.1.3.26) hydrolyze the phosphate at position 6. According to the invention, a 6-phytase is preferably used. It has a very high phytate degradation activity, particularly at low pH. Such phytase can be produced by microorganisms or provided by a plant raw material.
1998. The mode of action of NSP hydrolysing enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract. J. Anim. Feed Sci. 7 (Suppl. 1):115–123]. 2007. Microbial mannanases : an overview of production and applications. Crit. Rev. Biotechnol. 27(4):197-216] ; des carbohydrases [M. Francesch and PA Geraert, 2009. Enzyme complex containing carbohydrases and phytases improves growth performance and bone mineralization of broilers fed reduced nutrient corn-soybean-base diets. Poult. Sci. 88 :1915-1924].NSP-ases are enzymes that degrade non-starch polysaccharides (NSP). The food fraction qualified as dietary fiber is made up of these NSPs which include long-chain non-starchy carbohydrates, such as celluloses, pectins and glucans; resistant medium-long chain carbohydrates such as fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides; resistant starch; and lignin which is not a carbohydrate but is nevertheless included in NSPs [O. Simon. 1998. The mode of action of NSP hydrolyzing enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract. J.Anim. FeedSci. 7 (Suppl. 1):115–123]. NSP-ases break down NSPs into smaller components, such as oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides. As non-limiting examples, we find mannanases [S. Dhawan and J. Kaur. 2007. Microbial mannanases: an overview of production and applications. Crit. Rev. Biotechnology. 27(4):197-216]; carbohydrases [M. Francesch and PA Geraert, 2009. Enzyme complex containing carbohydrases and phytases improves growth performance and bone mineralization of broilers fed reduced nutrient corn-soybean-base diets. Poult. Sci. 88:1915-1924].
According to one implementation of the invention, the insects are chosen from those whose development goes through a larval stage. Moreover, an additive of the invention will advantageously be intended for the nutrition of insects at the larval stage, during all or part of this phase. Among these insects, interesting performances were obtained in black soldier flies, abbreviated BSF (“black soldier fly” in the English term; Hermetia illucens ).
Indeed, in certain insects like the BSF, the larval stage is the only one where the insect seeks to feed. This will be its sole objective, with the aim of making a reserve essentially of fat and also of sufficient protein to be able to transform into a nymph, then into a fly and reproduce.
The invention also provides a food for farmed insects, comprising at least one zootechnical additive as defined above and plant materials.
D’autres objets de l’invention sont décrits ci-après :Other objects of the invention are described below:
un procédé pour complémenter l’alimentation d’insectes d’élevage, selon lequel on intègre un additif zootechnique de l’invention, dans l’alimentation des insectes.a process for supplementing the feed of farmed insects, according to which a zootechnical additive of the invention is integrated into the feed of the insects.
un procédé pour augmenter les performances d’un élevage d’insectes, comprenant l’étape consistant à nourrir les insectes avec un aliment comprenant un additif zootechnique de l’invention ou un aliment de l’invention, tels que définis dans le présent texte ; avantageusement, les insectes sont des mouches soldat noir et sont au stade larvaire.a method for increasing the performance of insect breeding, comprising the step of feeding the insects with a food comprising a zootechnical additive of the invention or a food of the invention, as defined in the present text; Advantageously, the insects are black soldier flies and are in the larval stage.
