On sait que de plus en plus de véhicules automobiles actuels sont équipés d’appareillages d’aide à la conduite qui fournissent des fonctionnalités de conduite autonome, par exemple des fonctionnalités qui permettent le guidage automatisé des véhicules, la prise en charge de freinages d’urgence, la régulation de vitesse, le maintien dans une voie de circulation, la reconnaissance de panneaux de signalisation, etc. On sait aussi que, sur certaines routes, l’utilisation de chaines à neige ou autres accessoires antidérapants amovibles qui peuvent être montés sur les roues des véhicules pour améliorer l’adhérence sur neige des véhicules (e.g. chaussettes antidérapantes, bandes cloutées, etc.) est prescrite lorsqu’il neige, et que, si tel est le cas, des panneaux de signalisation particuliers sont installés en bordure de ces routes. On sait enfin que les chaînes à neige et autres accessoires antidérapants nuisent au bon fonctionnement de certains appareillages d’aide à la conduite. C’est notamment le cas pour les appareillages de freinage autonome d’urgence et/ou les appareillages de régulation de vitesse adaptatifs qui fonctionnent mal et dont l’utilisation peut même s’avérer dangereuse sur chaussée enneigée.
