Description
OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to the field of soils treated with lime and / or hydraulic binders, and more particularly to the specific study of their mechanical fatigue behavior.
Soil treatment consists of incorporating a hydraulic binder into the natural soil before compacting it. This treatment has the consequence of improving the mechanical performance. It is for example used in the field of road earthworks at the level of arases to allow the circulation of construction equipment and for the realization of the layers of forms of road infrastructures. Soils are natural materials made of grains, fines and clay. They are classified according to their granularity and their argilosity. Granularity is determined by particle size analysis. It allows to define the size of the largest elements (Dmax), and the content of fine (sieve at 80pm). As for the clay, it is possible to assess the reactivity of the clays in the soil, and is expressed either by the plasticity index Ip (NF-P94-051 1993) or by the methylene blue value of the VBS soil. (NF-P94-068 1998). An extract of the classification of soils according to their granularity and their argillosity proposed in the technical guide for the realization of the Embankments and Layers of Forms published by the Department of Technical Studies of Roads and Highways of the Ministry of Equipment, Housing and of Transport is given in Figure 1.
The soils concerned by the treatment are those whose size of the largest elements Dmax is less than 50 mm. These soils are generally classified into three families: 3 0 156 75 2 A: fine soils; for a mass M in grams of these materials, the quantity in grams of passing at 80 lm is greater than 35% of M. According to the clay, this family is subdivided into 4 categories, Al to A4. B: sandy and gravelly soils with fines; for a mass M in 5 gram of these materials, the quantity in gram passing at 80 lm is less than or equal to 35% of M. According to the argilosity and sieves at 80 lm and 2 mm, this family is subdivided into six categories, B1 to B6. D: soil insensitive to water; on the one hand, for a mass M in grams of these materials, the quantity in gram passing to 80 lm is less than or equal to 12% of M, on the other hand the argilosity (VBS) of these sols is lower at 0.1g / 100gsoi dry. According to the 2 mm sieve, this family is subdivided into two categories, D1 and D2. Nowadays, in the French rail sector, the use of these materials for the high-speed line (HSL) layer is not allowed because of a lack of knowledge about their mechanical fatigue behavior. The mechanical fatigue tests carried out on the materials treated with the hydraulic binders used in the pavement layers in accordance with the standards in force (NF P 98 233-1 and NF P 98 232-4) are made in flexion on pseudo-trapezoidal specimens. 25 recessed at their base. The term pseudo-trapezoidal is used because apart from the base and the top of the specimen, the lateral faces are not parallel in pairs. This geometry makes it possible during the tests to generate the maximum stresses at the center of the specimen and to minimize the stresses at embedding. These specimens are compacted by vibro-compression. This approach is particularly suitable for cohesive controlled granulometry materials with very low fines content. Nevertheless, for treated natural soils, the particle size of which is not controlled and the content of fines generally much higher (up to several tens of percents), compaction by vibrocompression is not suitable because the fine particles and the clays prevent the granular arrangement from occurring. . As a result, on the one hand, the test pieces obtained are not uniform in density. FIG. 2 thus illustrates the case of a test piece obtained according to this method, and has a density variation of the order of 25% over the length. On the other hand, it is not possible at the moment to obtain all the desired densities. To overcome these shortcomings, it has been proposed to prepare these specimens by static compaction. Nevertheless, with the pseudotrapezoidal molds described above, it is not possible to obtain homogeneous density specimens, a density gradient forming over the width thereof. It has therefore been proposed to greatly reduce the dimensions of the specimen by passing on a trapezoidal geometry in the sense that, in addition to the base and the top of the specimen, two lateral faces on the four are parallel. The density obtained is then homogeneous. Nevertheless, because of the effects of scale, it is essential to provide a ratio between the size of the specimen and the maximum diameter of the particles greater than 10. However, the particle size of the tested soils is not controlled, and most large components of the soils considered for treatment are generally of the order of 6.3 mm. As a result, this method is only applicable for soils whose elements have a very small maximum diameter Dmax and the specimens prepared with this method. compaction mode are in the vast majority of cases too small. The current French standards on fatigue approaches for pavement materials treated with hydraulic binders date from the 1980s. Nevertheless, although they provide for the use, according to the particle size of the soils tested, of two types of molds with corresponding compaction the flexural tests that are the subject of these standards can not currently be applied to all the soils concerned by the treatment, since there is no technique for making test pieces with homogeneity in sufficient density to be able to be used. As a result, the fatigue tests can not be carried out because of the impossibility of preparing homogeneous specimens in density. The solution currently proposed therefore consists in calculating the fatigue parameters of the materials from static characterization tests. However, it is not satisfactory insofar as there is a significant lack of knowledge at present in the field of mechanical fatigue of treated floors.
For this, the invention proposes a method of producing a test specimen of soil treated with lime and / or hydraulic binders, comprising the following steps: (i) providing a mold of pseudo-trapezoidal shape, said mold comprising: side walls each having a first edge and a second edge, the first edge being opposite to the second edge, and a first piston and a second trapezoidal piston, each piston comprising an outer wall and a central extra thickness, the outer wall extending on either side of the edges of the side walls, while the extra thickness extends between the edges of the side walls, (ii) filling the mold with treated soil, and (iii) compacting the treated soil in the mold, the method being characterized in that the first piston and the second piston of the mold are movable relative to the side walls in a direction of compaction, and in that the treated soil is compacted prog relentably using a series of removable wedges placed between the first edge and first piston on the one hand and between the second edge and the second piston on the other hand. Some preferred but non-limiting features of the method of embodiment described above are the following: step (iii) of progressive compaction comprises the following sub-steps: compacting the treated soil by applying a force on the first piston until said first piston abuts against a shim, removing a shim between the second piston and the second edge, compacting the treated floor by moving the first piston and the second piston together until said second piston comes to a stop against the second edge, withdrawing a shim between the first piston and the first edge, and compacting the treated ground by moving the first piston and the second piston together, until said first piston abuts against the first edge; number of superimposed wedges between the first edge and the first piston is less than the number of superimposed wedges between the second edge and the second piston, and in which, at During the compaction stage, the wedges are removed alternately on either side of the mold and the treated soil is compacted to the next block or, if appropriate, the first edge and the second edge, respectively, starting with the wedges between the second edge and the second piston, the mold comprises two superimposed wedges between the first edge and the first piston and three superimposed wedges between the second edge and the second piston; the small base of the pseudo-trapezoidal shape of the mold has a width between the two side walls at least equal to 65 mm, and - the cumulative height formed by all the wedges is at most equal to the minimum cumulative thickness of the central extra thicknesses of the first piston and the second piston.
According to a second aspect, the invention provides a mold for the production of a lime-treated soil sample and / or hydraulic binders according to a production method as described above, said mold being of pseudo-trapezoidal shape. and comprising: - side walls each having a first edge and a second edge, the first edge being opposite the second edge, and - a first piston and a second trapezoidal piston, each piston comprising an outer wall and a central extra thickness, the outer wall extending on either side of the edges of the side walls, while the central extra thickness extends between the edges of the side walls.
Some preferred but non-limiting characteristics of the mold described above are the following: the small base of the pseudo-trapezoidal shape of the mold has a width between the two lateral walls at least equal to 65 mm, the useful surface of the internal faces of walls of the mold which can be of the order of: 165108 mm for the large base, 480 mm for the height and 90 * 65 mm for the small base, and - the mold further comprises organs configured to allow a gradual and symmetrical opening side walls of the mold, said members may comprise at least one threaded rod fixed between two side walls of the mold at the level of the large base and / or the small base of the pseudo-trapezoidal shape. The invention also proposes the use of a test specimen of soil treated with lime and / or hydraulic binders obtained according to a method as described above for carrying out tests in mechanical fatigue. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other features, objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading the following detailed description, and with reference to the accompanying drawings given by way of non-limiting examples and in which: Figure 1 is an extract from the classification of soils according to their granularity and their argilosity, Figure 2 shows the result of gamma-densimetric measurements on a pseudo-trapezoidal test piece of a soil treated with 5% of cement, compacted according to the method of The units are relative, the target density being 90% of the OPN (acronym for Optimal Proctor Normal). Figures 3a and 3b show the result of the gamma-densimetric recordings in longitudinal and transversal section respectively of a pseudo-trapezoidal test piece of a given treated floor with 5% cement, compacted according to the mode described in this document. The units are relative, the targeted density being 100% of the OPN, FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an exemplary embodiment of a mold according to the invention, FIG. 5 illustrates successive steps of FIG. an exemplary embodiment of the method of producing a lime and / or hydraulic binders-treated soil sample according to the invention, FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing various steps of an exemplary embodiment of the process for producing a specimen of soil treated with lime and / or hydraulic binders according to the invention, and FIG. 7 is an exemplary embodiment of a test specimen that can be obtained according to the production method according to the invention. . DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT In order to produce a specimen of soil treated with lime and / or hydraulic binders, the invention proposes progressively compacting with a series of removable wedges the soil treated in a mold 1 whose shape and dimensions make it possible to obtain a homogeneous specimen in density, regardless of the size of the elements forming the treated soil 10. The mold 1 has a pseudo-trapezoidal shape and comprises side walls 2, 3 delimiting together an internal volume, an upper piston 4 and a lower piston 5. The upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 are movable relative to the side walls 2 and 3 in a compacting direction X which extends substantially perpendicular to the section of the mold , and are adapted to close the internal volume of the mold 1 when they are assembled with the walls 2, 3. The side walls 2, 3 each comprise an upper edge 2b and a lower edge 2c. Here, the upper edge 2b corresponds to the edge adjacent to the upper piston 4, while the lower edge 2c corresponds to the edge adjacent to the lower piston 5. By pseudo-trapezoidal shape, it will be understood here that the side walls 3 extend substantially parallel and form a small and a large base of a trapezium, the side walls 2 are inclined relative to each other and extend along the length of the trapezium between the side walls 3, while the upper pistons 4 and lower 5 are trapezoidal (see Figure 4). The pseudo-trapezoidal shape evokes in its shape a trapezoidal geometry but comprises only two walls 4, 5 of trapezoidal shape. In one embodiment, the heights (between the lower edge 2c and the upper edge 2b) of the side walls 3 forming the small and the large base are equal, so that the outer walls of the pistons 4, 5 extend substantially parallel. when they are assembled with the side walls 2, 3. In this case, the pistons 4, 5 each comprise a central extra thickness 4a, 5a of non-constant thickness, so that the internal faces of the extra thicknesses 4a, 5a of the upper pistons 4 and 5 do not extend parallel when the pistons 4 and 5 are assembled with the mold 1. The test piece obtained in this mold 1 thus comprises a small base whose height is smaller than that of the large base (see FIG. 7). In this embodiment, the pistons 4 and 5 thus each comprise a central excess thickness 4a, 5a of non-constant thickness and whose surface extends between the inner faces of the walls 2 and 3. In this way, the central extra thickness 4a , 5a pistons 4 and 5 is housed between the walls 2, 3 of the mold 1 in the assembled position.
The mold 1 thus makes it possible to obtain a specimen of pseudotrapezoidal shape, the small base and the large base of which are formed by the faces 3 and the lateral faces are molded by the lateral walls 2, the upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 of the mold 1.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the mold 1 is of pseudo-trapezoidal shape and is therefore suitable for producing pseudo-trapezoidal specimens. Moreover, in order to allow the compaction of any type of treated soil 10 while limiting the effects of scale and the clipping of the materials, whatever the size of the elements composing the compacted treated soil, the mold 1 presents Preferably, the dimensions are at least five times larger than the maximum diameter of the floors 10, preferably at least ten times larger. For example, the inner faces 2a, 3a of the side walls 2, 3, the upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 of the mold 1 have a useful surface configured so that the small base of the test piece obtained has at least one width, between the side walls 2, 65 mm. By useful surface, here will be understood the molding surface of the inner faces 2a, 3a of the walls 2- 5 of the mold 1, that is to say the surface of the walls 2-5 of the mold 1 which is in contact with the final test piece of treated soil 10 once compaction has been achieved. An example of a test specimen satisfying all the above criteria can in particular have dimensions of 1651 mm for the large base, 480 mm for the height and 90 mm for the small base. Given the significant lateral stresses applied to the internal faces of the side walls 2, the mold 1 can be made of a material having good mechanical properties in order to withstand these pressures. For example, the mold 1 may be made of an aluminum alloy, for example of the 2000 family, in particular aluminum 2017 (or duralumin), or steel.
In addition, the side walls 2, 3 of the mold can be reinforced structurally using stiffeners. The stiffeners may in particular comprise, as illustrated in FIG. 4, one or more walls extending outside the internal volume of the mold 1 between the side walls 3, in a plane substantially parallel to the upper pistons 4 and lower 5. Finally , in order to protect the fastening modes of the walls 2 and 3 and to progressively reduce the stresses applied by the mold 1 on the test piece, at the end of compaction, the mold 1 can be provided with members 6.
These members 6 are configured to enable securing the fastening modes and to allow a gradual and symmetrical opening of the side walls 2 of the mold 1. Indeed, the significant stresses on the inner faces 2a cause deformation of the side walls 2, so that it is preferable to control the movement of these walls 2 during the opening of the mold 1 so as not to risk that they fall back against the test tube by springback and damage or distort the fatigue tests . Such members 6 may in particular comprise one or more threaded rods, fixed between two side walls 2 of the mold 1 at the level of the large base or the small base, in a plane substantially parallel to the side walls 3. Preferably, the threaded rods extend outside the internal volume of the mold 1 containing the treated floor 10. For this, in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the side walls 2 project beyond their intersection with the side walls 3, thus forming a support for the fixing of the threaded rods 6. In this way, the screwing of the threaded rods 6 makes it possible to bring the lateral walls 2 closer to a molding configuration, while their unscrewing makes it possible to progressively move the side walls 2 away. from one to the other to a demolding configuration, which guarantees a symmetrical and progressive release of the specimen and limits the elastic return of the side walls 2 during the demolition Oulage.
In the following, the implementation S of the mold 1 to gradually compact the treated soil 10 and obtain a homogeneous specimen in density will now be described. During a first step S1, the side walls 2, 3 of the mold 1 are assembled. In the case where the mold 1 comprises members configured to allow a gradual and symmetrical opening of the side walls 2, 3 of the mold 1, the side walls 2, 3 are assembled in their molding configuration. Thus, for a mold 1 provided with one or more threaded rods, said rods are then screwed to secure the fasteners between the side walls 2, 3 of the mold 1 The upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 of the mold 1 can be separated from the side walls 2, 3. In one embodiment, formwork oil S11 may be applied to the inner faces of the side walls 2, 3, the upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5, in order to facilitate demolding. of the test piece. A film may also be applied when the treated soil 10 which is desired to compact is particularly difficult to demold.
Ici, le bord supérieur 2b correspond au bord adjacent au piston supérieur 4, tandis que le inférieur bord 2c correspond au bord adjacent au piston inférieur 5.At least one upper wedge 7 and at least one lower wedge 8 are then respectively positioned against an upper edge 2b and a lower edge 2c of the side walls 2, 3 of the mold 1. Here, the upper edge 2b corresponds to the edge adjacent to the upper piston 4, while the lower edge 2c corresponds to the edge adjacent to the lower piston 5.
The upper and lower shims 8 and 8 are preferably configured so as to extend on either side of the mold chamber 1 intended to receive the treated soil 10 to be compacted. For example, the shims 7, 8 may each comprise two elongate bars, the length of which substantially corresponds to the length of the side walls 2, the shape of which substantially corresponds to the cross section of the side walls 2 of the mold 1. For example, the shims 7, 8 have a substantially rectangular section.
According to one embodiment, the number of upper shims 7 is different from the number of lower shims 8. For example, in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3, two upper shims 7 are superimposed on the upper edge 2b of the lateral walls. 2, 3, while three lower blocks 8 are superimposed on their lower edge 2c. This is not restrictive, however, since a different number of upper and lower shims could be used here, for example three upper wedges 8 and two lower wedges 7, or three wedges 7, 8 on each side.
The cumulative height (in the direction X of compacting) formed by all the shims 7, 8 superimposed on the upper edge 2b and the lower edge 2c of the side walls is at most equal to the minimum cumulative thickness of the extra thicknesses 4a, 5a pistons 4 and 5 (in the direction of compacting X). Typically, the treated soil height 10 at the end of compaction corresponds to the distance, when the upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 are assembled with the side walls 2, 3, between their central extra thicknesses 4a, 5a. The lower piston 5 (respectively the upper piston 4) is furthermore positioned on the lower wedge 8 (respectively the upper wedge 7) in order to close the lower opening (respectively the upper opening) of the mold 1, then the mold 1 is S2 filled by the opening facing the treated soil 10 with which it is desired to make a test piece. The mold 1 is then closed by placing the corresponding piston 5, 4 on the treated floor 10 contained in the mold 1 between the side walls 2, 3 (step b) of Figure 5). In practice, the lower piston 5 can for example be placed on a flat surface, then the shims 8 placed on the lower piston 5. The side walls 2, 3 of the mold 1 can then be placed on the shims 8, then the shims 7 be superimposed on the upper edge 2a of the side walls 2. Formwork oil can be applied to the walls 2, 3 and the pistons 4, 5, and, where appropriate, a film to facilitate demolding. Finally, the mold 1 can be filled opposite the treated soil, and the opening of the mold 1 can be closed with the upper piston 4 placed on the wedges 7.
In what follows, we will consider that it is the lower piston 5 which is positioned on the lower wedge 8 in order to close the lower opening of the mold 1, and that the mold 1 is filled S2 by the upper opening with the ground treated 10, which is then closed by the upper piston 4. This is however not limiting, the opposite may also be implemented.
Dans cet exemple de réalisation, le piston inférieur 5 est donc au contact des cales inférieure 8 au début du compactage, tandis que la surépaisseur 4a du piston supérieur 4 est posée sur le sol traité 10, à distance des cales supérieures 7.In this embodiment, the lower piston 5 is in contact with the lower wedges 8 at the beginning of compaction, while the extra thickness 4a of the upper piston 4 is placed on the treated ground 10, at a distance from the upper wedges 7.
The treated soil 10 contained in the mold 1 is then progressively compacted S3 in the compacting direction X by means of the series of removable wedges 7, 8 placed between the mold 1 and the upper pistons 4 and lower 5. Here, the compaction direction X extends generally perpendicular to the surface of the upper pistons 4 and lower 5, in zo direction of the center of the mold 1. Thus, during a fourth step a pressure is applied in the direction X of compaction on the mold 1 to compact the treated soil 10 by moving the upper piston 4 of the upper shims 7 facing. The treated soil 10 is compacted until the upper piston 4 abuts against the upper shims 7 (step b) of Figure 5). In a fifth step, one of the lower shims 8 is removed, and pressure is applied to the mold 1 to compact the treated soil 10 by moving the lower piston 5 closer to the remaining lower shims 8, until the lower piston 5 abuts against said lower wedges 8 (step c) of Figure 5). The treated soil 10 may for example be compacted by applying pressure to the upper piston 4, the lower piston 4 being supported on the flat surface. Given the forces involved, the pressures applied to the lower piston 5 and the upper piston 4 to compact the material can be applied by a large capacity press. The operations of withdrawal of shims 7, 8 and application of pressure on the mold 1 to compact the material are repeated as many times as necessary to remove all the shims 7, 8 and compact the material in the mold 1 by bringing the upper piston 4 and the lower piston 5 into abutment against the upper edges 2b and lower 2c, respectively. Thus, for the exemplary embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3, the three lower wedges 8 and the two upper wedges 7 are removed successively and alternately, and pressure is applied between each withdrawal on the pistons 4, 5 until that all of the material is contained within the mold 1 (steps d) and e) of Figure 5). The mold 1 can then be sealed by applying sealing strips, typically adhesive strips, at the intersection between the various walls 2-5, then placed in the preservation room. Thanks to the method of realization S and the specific mold 1 of the invention, the test piece thus obtained is homogeneous in density. For example, for the treated soil used in the example of FIG. 2, the specimen compacted in a pseudo-trapezoidal mold 1 as described above and according to the progressive compaction method according to the invention has a variation density of the order of 5% in the thickness and 7% in the length (see Figures 3a and 3b), which is a clear improvement in comparison with the density variations obtained by conventional techniques.
The mold 1 can then be opened, for example by removing the fasteners between the walls 2 and 3 and then separating the side walls 2 progressively by unscrewing the threaded rods 6.
