Description
The present invention relates to a process for precipitating a plastic material dissolved in a solvent by injecting a non-solvent in the form of a gas.
Plastics are widely used in various forms, mainly in the solid state, for the manufacture of various items, flexible or rigid, such as for example tarpaulins, coated fabrics and other elements for the interior trim of vehicles , pipes, blisters (pharmaceutical packaging), window frames or electrical cables with polymeric insulation. However, it often happens that at a given moment of their existence, they are in solution in a solvent from which it is then necessary to extract them. Thus, we are confronted with polymer solutions at the end of certain polymerization processes (called "in solution"), during certain recycling processes, during the cleaning of certain object-making or paint-based installations. Thus, various methods of recycling plastics based on dissolution using organic solvents have been proposed. The patent application EP 945481 in the name of the applicant proposes for example a recycling process of an article based on at least one vinyl chloride polymer, according to which: (a) the article is shredded into fragments of an average dimension of 1 cm to 50 cm in case it exceeds these dimensions; (b) the dry article fragments are contacted with a solvent capable of dissolving the substantially anhydrous polymer, forming with water azeotrope (MEK preferably); (c) the precipitation of the polymer dissolved in the solvent is caused by the injection of water vapor into the solution thus obtained, which further causes the entrainment of the solvent-water azeotrope and thus leaves a mixture consisting essentially of water and solid particles of polymer; (d) the polymer particles are collected. Such a method generally also comprises at least one of the following steps: a: the fragments of articles are fed from a storage silo to a dissolver bl: the polymer solution is fed from the dissolver to a primary filter separating the large insolubles (typically reinforcements or accessories having at least a dimension> 150 μm) of the polymer solution b2: the insolubles are preferably treated to remove traces of polymer and residual solvent, which can be done by stripping with steam b3: the polymer solution is sent to a precipitator by prior passage in a centrifugal decanter to remove insoluble smaller size cl: the polymer particles from the precipitator are separated from the water and brought to a dryer using a pump. Depending on the type of insoluble content in the article to be recycled, it may be advantageous to operate the steps b, bl, b2 and b3 in the same reactor, which is then a dissolver-filter. EP 2276801 in the name of the applicant describes a method using such an apparatus. In the aforementioned EP applications, the precipitation of the plastic material is by injecting water vapor into the solution. So that said vapor is finely dispersed in the solution (in the form of fine bubbles), and in doing so, to obtain an optimal precipitation, the applicant had the idea to use what is called a "sparger" or disperser, device commonly used in industry to disperse a gas in a liquid. This is usually a tubular channel possibly annular or ring form which is either porous or is provided with orifices. It aims to fragment (divide) a gas stream into small bubbles.
However, the Applicant has found that this type of device tends to clog quickly likely due to the entry of solution in the pores or orifices of the device during periods when it comes into contact with the solution without steam not injected. Indeed, the method described above generally operates in a loop, in successive batches where the solvent used is recycled. Therefore, during each batch, the solution is first made by dissolving the plastic then only subject to precipitation generally in a "reactor" called a precipitator where it is usually transferred after passing through a filter. The injection of steam through the disperser is therefore when the device is already in contact (in fact embedded) the solution. Therefore, the present invention aims to provide a method not having this disadvantage so as to avoid having to clean often (or even replace) the disperser. The present invention therefore relates to a method for precipitating a plastic material dissolved in a solvent by injecting a non-solvent in the form of a gas, according to which the gas is injected into the solution in the form of at least one stream that is fragmented using a fragmentation device at least partially immersed in the solution but wherein said solution can not penetrate. The plastics material of the present invention may be of any kind. It may be an apolar polymer, such as a polymer of ethylene (PE) or propylene (PP); styrene polymers such as PS (polystyrene) ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer). It may also be a polar polymer such as a polymer of vinyl chloride (PVC) or vinylidene chloride (PVDC), or a copolymer of ethylene and polyvinyl alcohol (EVOH). It can also be a mixture of such plastics of which at least one is in solution. Good results have been obtained with PVC. By PVC is meant any homo- or copolymer containing at least 50% by weight of vinyl chloride. Before being dissolved, the plastic material may be in any form. It may for example be waste polymerization, compounding or implementation, possibly in the liquid or pasty state, possibly even in solution in a solvent. It may also be solid articles (in the form of flexible or rigid pipes, containers, sheets for covering floors, tarpaulins, window frames, electrical cable insulation sleeves, etc.). ) comprising one or more usual additives such as, for example, plasticizers, stabilizers, antioxidants, flame retardants, pigments, fillers, etc., including reinforcing fibers. These fibers can be of any nature, natural or synthetic; it may be fiberglass, cellulose or plastic, such as polyester fibers and in particular, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers.
When this solution originates (from fragments) of articles to be recycled, it generally comprises insolubles which may be (fragments of) reinforcements (fibers, various fillers), "accessories" such as metal eyelets, labels, conductors metal etc. ; plastic materials of another nature ... For example, waste electrical cables generally contain PVC and copper; roof membrane waste generally comprises PVC and PET fibers; Pharmaceutical blister waste generally comprises several different plastics (typically PVC and PE), which are not soluble in the same solvents; wallpaper waste often contains PVC and paper etc. by definition, these insolubles are present as solid particles in the solution. Note that there may be several types of insolubles as described above in the same solution. The insolubles described above are preferably substantially removed from the solution prior to precipitation of the plastic so that said solution is substantially free of insoluble particles.
The removal of insolubles from the solution, if any, is usually done mechanically. It can be a filtration, a decantation, a centrifugation etc. The mechanical separation step can also take place by a mixed process, for example by filtration in a centrifugal decanter. By definition, it is an apparatus which combines the application of two different forces which depend both on the density of the bodies to be separated: the force of gravity and the centrifugal force. Such devices are in particular marketed by Alfa Laval, Pieralisi, Bord, Broadbent and Siebtechnik. In a process where the choice of the solvent capable of dissolving the plastic material is free (recycling process for example), it is preferably selected from liquids having a solubility parameter (a definition and experimental values of which appear in " Properties of Polymers ", DW Van Krevelen, 1990 Edition, pp.200-202, as well as" Polymer Handbook ", J. Brandrup and EH Immergut, Editors, Second Edition, pp. IV-337 to IV-359) the solubility parameter of the plastic material to be dissolved and / or having strong interactions with it (eg hydrogen bonds). The term "neighbor" is generally equivalent to "not deviating more than 6 units". It is generally an organic solvent, preferably polar such as MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), which gives good results with many polymers and in particular with halogenated polymers such as PVC. It is understood that by solvent is meant both simple substances and mixtures of substances. In particular, in the case of a continuous and / or closed loop recycling process, the solvent may be a recycled liquid stream and may contain a certain amount of non-solvent.
The non-solvent used in the process according to the invention generally has a solubility parameter which is different from that of the polymer to be recovered and does not have a strong interaction with it. The term "different" generally means that the difference between the solubility parameters of the non-solvent and the polymer exceeds 4 or even 6 units. A nonsolvent which is suitable (since it has a solubility parameter which is very different from that of most polymers and which is advantageous from an environmental point of view) is water, in particular when the polymer to be recovered is an ABS resin. a styrene polymer or PVC. Moreover, many plastic waste contains a significant amount of water which will therefore also be found in the environment and therefore, from this point of view, the choice of water as a non-solvent is also wise. Generally, the precipitation according to the invention is carried out in a reactor also called a precipitator. Preferably, it is equipped with an agitator (preferably a submersible propeller at mid-height of the autoclave) to impart movement to the solution and preferably rotating at a speed ranging from 60 to 120 rpm.
According to the invention, the non-solvent is gaseous and is injected into the solution in the form of at least one stream which is fragmented using a fragmentation device at least partly immersed in the solution but where said solution can not penetrate. By "flow" is meant a flow of the gas supplied by a gas distribution network, generally by means of pipe (x). According to the invention, this flow (which can be described as "macroscopic") is fragmented, ie transformed into smaller streams and / or smaller bubbles, using a fragmentation device. According to a first variant of the invention, the fragmentation device is a turbine whose blades break up the "large" bubbles from the (or flows of) gas injected into the solution into smaller bubbles. It is preferably a Pitched Blade Paddle Turbine turbine, a Rushton type turbine or a Scaba SRGT type turbine (with concave parabolic blades). The latter has given good results in the context of the invention. In this variant of the invention, the fragmentation device is fully immersed in the solution. In a second variant of the invention, the fragmentation device consists of an outgrowth of a pipe bringing the flow of gas into the solution, or of a piece attached thereto, this excrescence / insert being provided with orifices. which are obscured when no gas injection takes place. Preferably, it is an insert and most preferably a retractable piston valve whose piston is provided with orifices. This type of valves is marketed by SchuF Fetterolf. In this variant, the fragmentation device is only partially and / or intermittently immersed in the solution. Indeed, the piston of the valve being retractable, it is preferably by default at least partly (preferably at least throughout its portion provided with orifices) retracted out of the solution and is immersed in it only for the injection of the gas. The method according to the present invention can be integrated into any process involving the recovery of a plastic material from a solution. In particular, it can be part of a plastic recycling process by dissolution / precipitation. In this variant, the plastic solution is preferably obtained by dissolving (fragments) of article (s) plastic material (s) as described above. Preferably, this method operates in a closed loop, in successive batches where the solvent used is recycled.
