An essential feature of agricultural greenhouse cover films, related to their cost, cost of installation and recycling, is their durability. These films are exposed to the sun, and various other agents related to climate and activity under the greenhouse, for several years. They must retain their physical properties, including their mechanical and optical properties during this period of use. The vast majority of films are made on a polyethylene base, which has a good profile of cost, physical properties and recyclability. These films are stabilized with various additives known to those skilled in the art such as UV absorbers and HALS.
Whatever the particular properties of the greenhouse cover film and whatever the specific technical advantages it can bring to the crop, the film must have the longest possible life and use and guarantee the best keeping in time possible all of its properties. However, the conditions of use of the greenhouse cover film, subjected to external agents such as heat, cold, water, oxygen, solar radiation, especially ultraviolet and chemicals, induce progressive degradation and continuous polymeric structure and various additives incorporated in the plastic material used. This results in a physico-chemical degradation of the entire film and thereby a degradation of some of its physical, mechanical or optical properties, that these are conferred on it by the polymer used in itself where functional additives added to the polymer during manufacture. Degradation mechanisms are complex and in some cases the degradation of the matrix or additive may be responsible for the degradation of another additive. A similar sustainability problem is encountered for many other plastic films intended for outdoor use, such as in particular films intended to hide building sites or films for advertising or signage. The stabilization of plastic films used outdoors, and in particular the stabilization of plastic films for greenhouse roofing, therefore remains an important and complicated problem. Furthermore, it is known that greenhouse cover films using photoluminescent organic compounds have been described for more than 30 years. These photoluminescent films modify sunlight to promote plant growth or other parameters of interest to crops within the greenhouse. Despite extremely interesting agronomic results, these films have never been commercialized on a large scale and photoluminescent greenhouses are not actually observed in the countryside. The main reason is that the durability of the photoluminescence of such films is low, of the order of a few weeks or months when it should be several years. Other photoluminescent plastic films used outdoors can benefit from increased stability. The problem which arises and which the present invention solves is to provide a photoluminescent plastic film which is stable.
For this purpose, the present invention is based on original film structures and compositions.
OF THE INVENTION In one embodiment, the invention relates to a photoluminescent plastic film comprising a central layer containing photoluminescent dyes interposed between two layers each being both a water barrier and an oxygen barrier. This structure makes it possible to ensure good stability over time of the photoluminescence of the film when it is exposed to external agents and in particular to sunlight, a stability which it has not been possible to obtain by the means of the prior art. By moisture barrier layer is meant a layer consisting predominantly of a polymer having a water permeability (here in the sense of water vapor) lower than the water permeability of the EVA, that it being 70 g / m2 / 24h at 38 ° C. and 98% humidity. By oxygen barrier layer is meant a layer consisting predominantly of a polymer having a permeability to oxygen less than the permeability to oxygen LDPE, the latter being 2 x 10-13 cm3. cm.cm-2 s-1 Pa-25 ° C. For example, an oxygen barrier layer may be composed of EVOH, preferably EVOH with an ethylene content of 25%, having an oxygen permeability of 5.times.10 -18 cm.sup.3. cm.cm-2 s-1 Pa-25 ° C, or PVDC, or polyamide. One or more layers of the film can be stabilized against the action of UV radiation by adding UV absorber compounds referred to herein as "anti-UV agents" such as benzophenones and benzotriazoles, for example, at concentrations leading to optical densities such as less than 50% and preferably less than 1% of the UV light passes through said layer, the remainder being absorbed by said absorbers. Moreover, in addition, it is possible to stabilize the film against UV and visible light by incorporating so-called stabilizing agents such as HALS and antioxidants that neutralize reactive products such as free radicals and peroxides created. in the polymer when absorbing UV radiation. In one embodiment, said photoluminescent plastic film is characterized in that said two barrier layers are each composed of two sub-layers, a water barrier, preferably located towards the outside of the film, and an oxygen barrier. This makes it possible to optimize the water barrier properties on the one hand, and oxygen on the other hand, and to protect the oxygen barrier layer from degradation that is due to water.
In one embodiment, said film further comprises one or more adhesion layer (s) interposed between layers or sub-layers of said film, so as to obtain a film of five, six, seven, eight or nine layers. Thus, two layers made of polymers that do not have, in pairs, a high degree of adhesion, can be joined together in an assembly by interposing an adhesion layer between said two layers. The assembly can be coextruded or laminated. In one embodiment, the photoluminescent plastic film according to the invention has a total thickness of between 30 micrometers and 1000 micrometers, preferably between 100 and 300 micrometers and its width is between 1 meter and 30 meters, preferably between 4 meters. and 20 meters. In one embodiment, said plastic film is characterized in that said core layer containing said photoluminescent dyes comprises a polymer having an affinity for said dyes greater than the affinity of the other layers for said photoluminescent dyes. This embodiment makes it possible to limit the migration of photoluminescent dyes within the film and outside the film, and thus increases the stability of the photoluminescence of the film. In one embodiment, the photoluminescent plastic film according to the invention comprises, superimposed, a water barrier layer comprising a mixture of LDPE and LDPE and comprising UV absorbers; an oxygen barrier layer comprising EVOH; a core layer comprising organic photoluminescent dyes comprising EVA with a VA percentage greater than 14%; an oxygen barrier layer comprising EVOH and a water barrier layer comprising a mixture of LLDPE and LDPE. In one embodiment, the photoluminescent dyes incorporated in the central layer of the film are part of one of the following families of compounds: perylenes and derivatives, naphthalimides and derivatives, Alexa fluorine and derivatives, photoluminescent pigments in the UV, visible or near infrared, rare earth derivatives, quantum dots. Preferably, the photoluminescent dyes are introduced at a concentration such that it leads to an optical density of between 0.1 and 1, preferably of between 0.2 and 0.5 at the maximum absorption wavelengths of said dyes. In one embodiment, the oxygen barrier layers or the moisture barrier layers further comprise one or more additives of the following types: anti-UV agents, HALS, optical diffusers, anti-fogging agents, anti-UV agents drop, so-called low emissivity additives. In one embodiment, the core layer comprising said photoluminescent dyes does not include any other types of additives.
This embodiment, excluding any interaction between photoluminescent dyes and other additives, enhances the photoluminescence stability of the film.
