Description
The present invention relates to a device and a method for filling fuel tanks. The invention relates more particularly to a device for filling a tank with a liquefied gaseous fuel at a cryogenic temperature, in particular for filling cryogenic tanks with pressurized liquid hydrogen, the device comprising a reservoir for storing gaseous fuel with the liquid state at a cryogenic temperature, a liquid fuel withdrawal line comprising a pump, the withdrawal line comprising an upstream end connected to the source reservoir and a downstream end comprising a connection intended to be connected to a reservoir to be filled, fuel gas and in particular hydrogen can be stored in various forms: in the form of a pressurized gas (for example at 700 bar) or in the form of a liquid (under pressure or not). The storage of liquid hydrogen at a cryogenic temperature under pressure (cryogenic compressed hydrogen), for example at a pressure of 350 bar, makes it possible to increase the stored fuel density relative to a storage in non-pressurized liquid form. This type of technology, however, has the disadvantage of requiring a very effective thermal insulation. In addition, this technology requires treating the inevitable vapors generated by the vaporization of a portion of the liquid throughout the system. To fill this type of storage, the fluid temperature must be controlled and must not exceed a temperature threshold (for example 50K). Cryogenic compressed hydrogen filling stations generally use a pump to draw liquid from a cryogenic source reservoir. Before filling, the pump and the circuit lines must be cooled. This is accomplished by circulating fluid or pumping fluid that is returned directly to the source reservoir. This cold operation generates a vaporization of liquid. The product gas is returned to the source tank and increases the pressure of the latter. Even when the pump and the circuit are at the required temperature, liquid vaporizes during operation of the pump. This amount of vaporized liquid varies depending in particular on the thermal performance of the pump and the circuits and the efficiency of the pump. The gas thus generated is transferred to the tank causing its rise in pressure. In case of excessive pressure a part of the gas must be released outside, for example via a safety valve. In addition to the economic consequences, a release of fuel gas into the atmosphere poses safety problems. In standby mode (between two fillings), the pump and the liquid lines are either kept at cryogenic temperature or brought back to room temperature. In addition, the heat inputs on the source reservoir produce gas by vaporizing part of its liquid at a given rate. This product vaporization gas gradually increases the pressure in the source reservoir. When it is desired to fill a liquid under pressure (for example compressed cryogenic hydrogen) the temperature of the pumped liquid supplied to the reservoir to be filled must be below a determined threshold and the pressure above a predetermined threshold. The temperature available at the outlet of the pump is highly dependent on the efficiency of the pump and the operating conditions of the device. An object of the present invention is to overcome all or part of the disadvantages of the prior art noted above. To this end, the filling device according to the invention, furthermore in accordance with the generic definition given in the preamble above, is essentially characterized in that the withdrawal line comprises, downstream of the pump, a portion bypass system transiting inside the source reservoir and comprising a submerged heat exchanger for thermally exchanging the pumped liquid and the liquid stored in the source reservoir, the withdrawal pipe comprising a bypass valve system (s) shaped for controlling the relative proportions of the pumped fluid transiting and not passing through the bypass portion, for regulating the temperature of the liquid withdrawn during filling, and that the filling device comprises a cryocooler connected to the source reservoir for selectively liquefying gas present in the source reservoir, in particular the vapors generated by the heat exchanger of the bypass portion and those generated by the setting and maintaining cold pump.

Le dispositif permet également de sécuriser le fonctionnement de la pompe (pour éviter un phénomène de cavitation).Furthermore, embodiments of the invention may include one or more of the following features: the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe comprises a sensor for measuring the temperature of the liquid, the filling device comprising a logic control electronics connected on the one hand to the temperature sensor and on the other hand to the bypass valve system (s), the electronic logic being configured to firstly receive the temperature information measured by the sensor of temperature and, secondly, control the bypass valve system (s), for regulating the temperature of the liquid at the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe 3006 742 3 to a predetermined value by mixing the distribution of the pumped liquid between the channels passing and not passing through the branch portion, the device comprises an upstream return line having a first end connected to an output of the pump and a second end connected to the source reservoir to form a fluid return loop pumped to the source reservoir to cool the pump and / or to return the source of the vaporized gas to the pump, the reservoir source comprises an inner wall interposed between the immersed heat exchanger and the suction port of the pump, to avoid or limit the disturbance of the NPSH at the suction of the pump, the device comprises a return line downstream equipped with a valve, the downstream return pipe having a first end connected to the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe and a second end connected to the source tank, - the second end of the cold-cooling pipe of the pump is 15 split into two parallel lines respectively connected to the upper and lower part of the source reservoir, the two parallel lines being provided with respective valves, - the electronic logic e is configured to firstly receive the pressure information measured by the pressure sensor and, secondly, to control the start or stop of the cryo-cooler, to regulate the pressure in the source reservoir - the cryo-cooler is based on a thermodynamic cycle of Stirling technology, Gifford MaCMahon, Brayton or Vuillemier. The invention may also relate to any alternative device or method comprising any combination of the above or below features. Other features and advantages will appear on reading the following description, made with reference to the single figure which shows schematically and partially the structure and operation of an exemplary possible embodiment of a filling device according to the invention. The exemplary filling device illustrated comprises a source tank 16 which stores gaseous fuel, for example hydrogen in the liquid state at a cryogenic temperature. The reservoir 16 source contains a quantity of liquid in equilibrium with a vapor phase. The fluid is in the reservoir at a temperature of, for example, between 20.2 K and 30.6 K and a pressure of, for example, between 1 and 9 bar absolute. The device comprises a withdrawal pipe 9 (preferably thermally insulated) comprising a pump 8. The withdrawal pipe 9 comprises an upstream end connected at the bottom of the source reservoir 16 and a downstream end comprising a connection 11 intended to be selectively connected to a reservoir 15 to be filled. The device conventionally comprises an upstream return line 6 comprising a first end connected to a degassing outlet of the pump 8 and a second end connected to the source tank 16 to form a fluid return loop pumped to the source tank 16 to provide a cooling of the pump 8 and / or returning to the source tank 16 of the vaporized gas in the pump 8. As illustrated in the figure, the second end of the pipe 6 cooling the pump 8 can be split in two parallel lines respectively connected to the upper and lower part of the reservoir 16 source, the two parallel lines being provided with respective valves 160, 26 to allow the return respectively of gas and liquid to the reservoir 16 source, while optimizing the management the pressure in the reservoir 16 source An isolation valve 180 may be provided upstream of the pump 8. According to an advantageous feature, the The withdrawal line 9 comprises, downstream of the pump 8, a bypass portion passing inside the source reservoir 16 and comprising an immersed heat exchanger 3 for heat exchanging the pumped liquid and the liquid stored in the reservoir. 16 source tank. In addition, a system of bypass valves 13 and 14 is provided on the withdrawal line 9 to control the relative proportions of the pumped fluid 25 transiting and not passing through the branch portion 3. That is to say that the liquid opening downstream in the withdrawal line 9 and supplied to the reservoir 15 consists of the sum of the fractions of fluid having circulated in the two parallel branches (respectively in the reservoir 16 source and out of the 16 source tank). The distribution of the fluid in the immersed exchanger 3 and / or out of the tank 16 makes it possible to regulate the temperature downstream of the withdrawal line 9 by cooling, if necessary, all or part of the fluid pumped by heat exchange with the liquid stored in the 16 source tank. As shown, this distribution can be achieved via two controlled bypass valves 13 and 14 disposed respectively on the two parallel branches 35. Of course, as a variant, a three-way valve or any other distribution system may be envisaged. In addition, the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe 9 may comprise a sensor 19 for measuring the temperature of the liquid and the filling device may comprise an electronic control logic connected on the one hand to the temperature sensor 19 and, on the other hand, the system of valves 13 and 14 bypass. Preferably, the electronic logic is configured to firstly receive the temperature information measured by the temperature sensor 19 and, secondly, to control the bypass valve system 13 and 14 to regulate the temperature of the liquid. at the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe 9 at a predetermined value. As illustrated, a sensor 29 for measuring the pressure in the downstream part of the withdrawal pipe 9 can also be provided and can be connected to the control logic. To ensure the cooling of the withdrawal line 9 prior to pumping and in order not to lose gas, the device may also comprise a downstream return line 18 provided with a valve 28. The return pipe 18 downstream having a first end connected to the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe 9 and a second end connected to the reservoir 16 source. Finally, an isolation valve 39 may be provided at the downstream end of the withdrawal pipe 9, upstream of the connection 11. According to an advantageous feature, the filling device also comprises a cryo-cooler 5 connected to the reservoir 16 source to liquefy gas present in the reservoir 16 source. This cryo-cooler 5, for example mounted in the upper part of the reservoir 16 source, may include a technology liquefier Stirling, Gifford MacMahon, Brayton or Vuilleumier. This cryo-cooler 5 comprises a gas inlet to be liquefied and a liquefied gas outlet which are connected to the storage volume of the source container 16. Alternatively, this cryo-cooler 5 can be installed directly in the source tank 16. As illustrated, a pressure sensor 50 in the source tank 16 may be connected to the cryo-cooler 5 and / or the electronic logic to control the cryo-cooler 5 depending on the level of pressure measured in the source tank 16. Reliquefying a part of the gas phase makes it possible to reduce the pressure in the source tank 16. The source tank 16 may also include a safety valve 36 releasing gas in case of overpressure (in the event of failure of the device described below or above). An example of use will now be schematically described. When the device is waiting (between two fills spaced for example a day), the pump 8 and its withdrawal circuit are at room temperature. The fluid is in equilibrium between a vapor phase and a liquid phase at a temperature corresponding to the saturation temperature of the fluid. Before filling, the isolation valve 180 upstream of the pump 8 is open (to cool the pump and its circuit) by classically recirculating the pumped liquid in the reservoir 16 source via the pipe 6 of bet in cold. When the pump 8 is at the required temperature (temperature equal to or close to the temperature of the liquid phase in the source tank 16, the filling operation can begin, this required temperature is measured for example by temperature sensors 80, 81 and 82 arranged at the inlet and / or outlet of the pump 8. The pump 8 can then be started The temperature of the liquid at the downstream outlet of the pump 8 depends in particular on the isentropic efficiency of the pump 8. For example, for a pump 8 generating a pressure increase of 300 barA (absolute bar), the inventors have calculated that, when liquid hydrogen at a temperature of 21.7 K is pumped by a pump 8 having an isentropic efficiency of 80%, the pressurized fluid reaches a temperature of about 41.8 K at the output of the pump 8 (temperature rise of about 20K). Preferably, the electronic logic receives the information from the sensors 80, 81, 82 of The measuring temperature of the cooling of the pump 8 to control the proper operation of the pump 8. The sensors 80, 81, 82 can be arranged respectively, at the inlet of the pump 8, at the level of the pump. downstream outlet of the pump 8 and at the upstream outlet of the pump 8 in the return line 6. A temperature sensor 81 located at the downstream outlet of the pump 8 makes it possible to control the temperature of the fluid pumped in the withdrawal line 9, in particular to detect any losses in the efficiency of the pump 8. In certain circumstances, the filling of the pump 8 a reservoir 15 requires a liquid having a predetermined temperature, for example 50K. At the beginning of pumping, a liquid temperature not exceeding 50 K is thus obtained downstream of the withdrawal pipe 9. The gas vaporized in the circuit (in the pump 8 in particular) is returned to the reservoir 16 source. This causes an increase in pressure and temperature within the source tank 16. In case of temperature increase and excessive pressure this may disturb not only the drawing operation but also the temperature of the liquid supplied to the filled tank. The inventors have determined that, when the pressure of the source reservoir exceeds a certain level, for example 4.2 barA (absolute bar), the temperature supplied to the reservoir 15 to be filled can exceed 50 K downstream of the withdrawal line 9. with an isentropic pump efficiency of 80%. To avoid this, the control logic 20 can control the opening of the bypass valve 14 to force a portion of the pumped liquid to pass through the exchanger 3 immersed in the reservoir 16 source. This fluid cooled in the immersed exchanger 3 is mixed downstream with the relatively hotter fluid which has not passed through the immersed exchanger 3. Measurement 19 of the fluid temperature may allow the control logic 20 to control the degree of opening of the bypass valves 13 and 14 to control this downstream temperature. In particular, this temperature can be controlled and maintained in an interval between, on the one hand, the temperature of the liquid in the source reservoir 16 plus a few degrees K (for example one or two degrees) and, on the other hand, the temperature of the liquid at the pump outlet 8. At the end of the pumping (for example when the measured pressure 29 on the withdrawal pipe 9 reaches a determined value), the pump 8 can be stopped. The valve 160 of the cold line which returns the gas from the pump 8 to the tank 16 can be closed when all the gas present in the circuit has been discharged to the source tank 16. While being of simple and inexpensive structure, the device according to the invention thus effectively controls the temperature of the fluid that fills the reservoir 15, regardless of the efficiency of the pump 8. In fact, the user In particular, it is possible to adjust (for example via the control logic 20) the temperature of the fluid that fills the tank 15. The device also makes it possible to secure the operation of the pump (to avoid a phenomenon of cavitation).
The Net Positive Suction Height (NPSH) suction head of the NPSH ("NPSH") pump is the pressure value available at the pump inlet above the pressure value of the pump. saturating vapor of said liquid. To avoid cavitation, the available NPSH must be at least equal to the required NPSH of the pump (specified by the pump manufacturer 8). This NPSH is a function: - of the pressure level in the source tank 16, - of the value of the saturating vapor pressure of the fluid concerned, - of the pressure drops in the draw-off circuit to the inlet of the pump 8 (line 181), - of the head of the liquid between, on the one hand, the upper surface of the liquid in the tank 16 and, on the other hand, the inlet of the pump 8. In the case of the hydrogen, because of its low density, the influence of the head is negligible (especially for horizontal tanks). The correct power supply (NPSH required below NPSH available) of the pump is done by subcooling the liquid at the inlet of the pump, which amounts to increasing the available NPSH. Advantageously, this can be done by increasing the pressure of the reservoir 16 slightly and punctually. In fact, following an increase in the pressure in the source reservoir 16, before the liquid / gas mixture regains a new state of equilibrium with a new equilibrium temperature defining a new saturation pressure, the temperature of the liquid is momentarily lower than its saturation temperature. Thus, before the start of the pump 8, preferably the pressure in the source tank 16 is increased. For example, this pressure increase is carried out up to a pressure value depending on the NPSH required of the pump 8 and the thermohydraulic performance of the suction line 181. Preferably this pressure increase is carried out in the previous hour. a filling (and preferably within thirty minutes before filling). This increase in pressure can be achieved by using the vapors generated during the cooling of the pump 8 (see the description above). In the case where the pump 8 has already cooled, this pressure increase can be carried out for example by withdrawing fluid from the source reservoir 16, by heating this fluid and then re-injecting it into the source reservoir 16. This heating can be carried out in a heat exchanger disposed for example in a branch 260 of the return pipe 6 and accessible via a valve. By minimizing the pressure losses and the heat inputs in the circuit, it is possible to minimize the level of pressure necessary to reach a sufficient NPSH required by the pump 8.
While being simple and inexpensive structure, the device thus ensures a sufficient NPSH for the pump 8. A depressurization of the source tank 16 followed by pressurization is an effective way to achieve the priming of the pump 8. However this can lead to a large production of vaporized gas ("boil-off" gas). Advantageously, the device comprises a cryocooler 5 which is provided for (re) liquefying a portion of the gas phase in the reservoir 16 source. This lowers the pressure and therefore the temperature within the source tank 16. This makes the source tank ready for subsequent filling operation with sufficient NPSH, without excessive production of vaporized gas.
This liquefaction of the gas provides an additional advantage. In fact, this liquefaction makes it possible to avoid releasing and losing gas in the event of overpressure. The fluid of the reservoir 16 source receives calories from the outside and in particular, the withdrawal circuit, in particular via the exchanger 3 immersed. This entry of calories causes sprays of liquid and therefore an increase in pressure. The cryo-cooler 5 makes it possible to avoid releasing excess product gas into the atmosphere. Preferably, at least one partition 4 is provided inside the reservoir to prevent vaporization bubbles formed at the immersed exchanger 3 from migrating towards the orifice supplying the pump 8. As illustrated, this partition 4 can extend for example from the bottom of the source reservoir 16 and over part of the internal height of the reservoir 16. This partition 4 (or these partitions if there are several) are interposed between the exchanger 3 immersed and the 16 source tank port connected to the pump inlet 8.
In addition, this partition 4 may consist of a material having a high thermal conduction coefficient (and may be pierced in places), to further form a heat exchanger for homogenizing the temperature within the source tank 16. This or these heat exchangers constituted by the partition or walls 4 allow for example to avoid stratification of temperature within the source tank 16. The partition or walls 4 also slow down the pressure increase within the tank 16.
