Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a three-wheeled vehicle, more particularly a three-wheeled vehicle having two front wheels, a rear wheel and an anti-roll unit.
A conventional motorcycle typically includes a front wheel and a rear wheel that is aligned with the front wheel in a forward-to-back direction to provide relatively good maneuverability. However, traditional motorcycle drivers must have a relatively high sense of balance to drive the vehicle without rolling or tumbling. Taiwan Patent Application No. 469,239 and Taiwan Patent No. I331973 describe a type of three-wheeled vehicle comprising two front wheels and a rear wheel to improve steering stability. Such a three-wheeled vehicle further comprises an articulated element which is connected to the front wheels and which comprises four articulated rods pivotally connected to each other so that the front wheels can be actuated to swing laterally or to tilt simultaneously relative to the ground. However, when the three-wheeled vehicle is slowed down or stopped, a pivoting action among the articulated rods may occur automatically, thereby causing the roll of the three-wheeled vehicle. Taiwan Patent Application No. 200530057 discloses an anti-roll device for three-wheeled vehicles. The anti-roll device comprises two blocking discs connected to a unit of articulated rods of the vehicle and two blocking brackets actuated to respectively tighten the blocking discs to prevent pivotal movement of the articulated rod unit, thereby preventing roll of the three-wheeled vehicle. However, the structure of such an anti-roll device is relatively complicated. Furthermore, since a motor is needed to control the movement of the locking brackets, a relatively large space is occupied in the vehicle. Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a three-wheeled vehicle able to reduce the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art. Accordingly, a three-wheeled vehicle of the present invention comprises a main frame comprising a hollow central positioning member, an anti-roll unit, a front wheel unit, a rear wheel unit and a steering unit. The anti-roll unit comprises a group of articulated rods pivotally connected to the central positioning member, and a hydraulic locking mechanism connected to the group of articulated rods, and operable to move between an unlocked state so as to allow the pivoting movement of the group of articulated rods relative to the central positioning member, and a locked state so as to stop the pivotal movement of the group of articulated rods relative to the central positioning member. The front wheel unit comprises two suspension mechanisms are disposed respectively on the left and right sides 3 and pivotally connected to the group of articulated rods, and a pair of front wheels respectively pivotally connected to the suspension mechanisms. The rear wheel unit is mounted on a rear side of the main frame. The steering unit comprises a steering mechanism pivotally connecting the suspension mechanisms to the central positioning member, and a control rod threaded into the central positioning member and rotatable to change the orientation of the wheels. before. The control rod and the central positioning member are free to tilt relative to the ground so as to actuate the pivoting movement of the articulated rod group to thereby cause the front wheels to tilt relative to the ground when the hydraulic lock is in the unlocked state. The control rod and the central positioning member are limited to tilt relative to the ground when the hydraulic lock mechanism is in the locked state. Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a side view of a first preferred embodiment of a three-wheeled vehicle according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a front view of the first preferred embodiment, illustrating a pair of front wheels in a normal position; Figure 3 is a schematic view illustrating a hydraulic lock mechanism of the first preferred embodiment in an unlocked state; Fig. 4 is a schematic view illustrating the hydraulic locking mechanism of the first preferred embodiment in a locked state; Figure 5 is a front view of the first preferred embodiment, illustrating the pair of front wheels inclined to the ground; Fig. 6 is a schematic view for illustrating a modification of the hydraulic lock mechanism of the first preferred embodiment; Fig. 7 is a partial front view of the first preferred embodiment for illustrating a modified locking unit; and Figure 8 is a partial front view of a second preferred embodiment of the three-wheeled vehicle according to the present invention. Before the invention is described in more detail with reference to the accompanying embodiments, it will be appreciated that like elements are indicated by the same reference numerals throughout the description. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a first preferred embodiment of a three-wheeled vehicle 2 of the present invention comprises a main frame 21, an anti-roll unit 20, a front wheel unit 23, a rear wheel unit 28 and a steering unit 24. The main frame 21 comprises a hollow central positioning element 211. The anti-roll unit 20 comprises a group of articulated rods 22 and a locking unit 25. The group of articulated rods 22 is connected in a manner pivotable to the central positioning member 211 and comprises a pair of spaced-apart articulated rods 221 extending in a horizontal direction and a pair of hollow side rods 222. Each of the articulated rods 221 has a pivotally connected central portion 22 central positioning member 211. One of the lateral rods 222 is pivotally connected to the left ends of the articulated rods 221, and the other of the Lateral rods 222 are pivotally connected to straight ends of the articulated rods 221. In this embodiment, each of the lateral rods 222 is formed with an engagement block 2221.
In this embodiment, each articulated rod 221 includes a pair of rod segments 224. Each rod segment 224 pivotally interconnects the central positioning member 211 and a corresponding lateral rod 222. The articulated rod group 22 further comprises a rigid coupling rod 223 having a central portion which is pivotally connected to the central positioning member 211, and opposed end portions which are respectively formed with grooves engagement 221 respectively engaging and sliding the engagement blocks 2221 respectively. The front wheel unit 23 comprises two suspension mechanisms 231 which are respectively disposed on the left and right sides and pivotally connected to the group of articulated rods 22. and a pair of front wheels 232 which are respectively and pivotably connected to the suspension mechanisms 231. Each suspension mechanism 231 comprises a side rod 233 rotatably threaded into a corresponding side rod 222, a coupling seat 234. a suspension arm 235 pivotally connected to a respective one of said front wheels 232, an el ment damper 236 and a support rod 237 (only one is visible in Figure 1). For each suspension mechanism 231, the coupling seat 234 has an outer connecting end 2341 which is pivotally connected to the side rod 233, and an inner connecting end 2342 which is opposed to the external connecting end 2341. and which extends inward. The damping element 236 pivotally interconnects the inner connecting end 2342 of the coupling seat 234 and the suspension arm 235 so as to position the respective front wheel 232 below the side rod 233. The rod 237 has an end which is connected to the inner connection end 2342 of the coupling seat 234 and an opposite end which is pivotally connected to the suspension arm 235. The rear wheel unit 28 is mounted on a Rear side of the main frame 21. According to the configuration of the coupling seats 234, the front wheels 232 can be positioned respectively below the corresponding lateral rods 237, so that the three-wheeled vehicle 2 of the present invention has a relatively small width in the horizontal direction. The steering unit 24 comprises a control rod 241 and a steering mechanism 242. The control rod 241 is rotatably threaded into the central positioning member 211. The steering mechanism 242 pivotally connects the steering mechanisms. suspension mechanism 231 to the central positioning member 211. The steering mechanism 242 comprises a steering seat 243 and a pair of steering rods 244. The steering seat 243 is coupled to rotate together with the control rod 241 in a steering seat 243. position near the front wheels 232. Each steering rod 244 comprises a rod body 245 which has opposite inner and outer ends, an inner ball joint 246 which pivotally connects the inner end of the rod body 245 to the seat of direction 243, and an outer ball joint 247 which pivotally connects the outer end of the stem body 245 to the coupling seat 234 of the suspension mechanism 231 corresponding. Therefore, when the control rod 241 is rotated relative to the central positioning member 211, the front wheels 232 are rotated to change their orientation through the steering mechanism 242. Furthermore, with reference to FIGS. 5, the locking unit 25 comprises a hydraulic locking mechanism 251 which is connected to the group of articulated rods 22. The hydraulic locking mechanism 251 comprises a cylinder 253 which is mounted on the group of articulated rods 22, which defines a space of fluid therein, and which has an opening communicating with the fluid space, a piston rod 253 'which has an end configured as a piston and extending telescopically in the fluid space through the opening and the other end pivotally connected to the central positioning member 211, a fluid passage 254 in fluid communication with the fluid space, a reservoir a fluid 255 which is filled with a hydraulic fluid 250 and which is in fluid communication with the fluid passage 254, and a valve 256 for controlling the flow of fluid between the fluid reservoir 255 and the fluid space. The lock unit 25 further includes a switch 252 for operating the operation of the valve 256. The hydraulic lock mechanism 251 is operable to move between an unlocked state in which it allows pivotal movement of the articulated rod group 22 relative to the central positioning member 211 and a locked state in which it stops the pivoting movement of the articulated rod group 22. When a user drives the three-wheeled vehicle 2, the valve 256 is actuated through the switch 252 to open the fluid passage 254, and the hydraulic lock mechanism 251 is in the unlocked state (see Figure 3). At this time, the control rod 241 and the central positioning member 211 are allowed to tilt relative to the ground (see FIG. 5) so as to force the piston rod 253 'to retract into the cylinder 253 to actuating the pivoting movement of the articulated rod group 22, thereby causing the front wheels 232 to tilt relative to the ground from a normal position (see Figure 2) in conjunction with the control rod 241. When the three wheels 2 is slowed or stopped, the valve 256 is controlled through the switch 252 to close the fluid passage 254, and the hydraulic lock mechanism 251 is in the locked state (see Figure 4). Since the hydraulic fluid 250 between the piston end of the piston rod 253 'and a full end of the cylinder 523 is incompressible, the piston rod 253' is not able to retract into the cylinder 253, so that the control rod 241 and the central positioning member 211 are prevented from tilting relative to the ground. As a result, the pivotal movement of the articulated rod group 22 relative to the central positioning member 211 is prevented. It should be noted that because the cylinder 253 has a piston rod 253 'extending into the fluid space, the volumes that the hydraulic fluid 250 occupied in the fluid space at opposite ends of the end piston piston 253 'are not the same, so that the fluid reservoir 255 is necessary to ensure that the volume of the hydraulic fluid 250 flowing in and out of the fluid passage 254 is the same. Referring to Fig. 6, a modified hydraulic lock mechanism may be used to include the cylinder 253 having opposite open ends and two piston rods 253 'which are arranged to extend respectively into the fluid space through the open ends. Thus, the fluid reservoir 255 as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4 can be omitted.
With reference to FIG. 7, the cylinder 253 can be mounted on the central positioning element 211 while the piston rod 253 'can be connected to the upper rod of the articulated rods 221. In fact, the cylinder 253 and the rod Piston 253 'can be connected to any one of two positions of the group of articulated rods 22 and the main frame 21 which have a relative displacement during the pivoting movement of the group of articulated rods 22. To sum up, the advantages of the present invention are as follows. In this invention, the hydraulic lock mechanism 251 is operable to move between the unlocked state to maintain good maneuverability of the three-wheeled vehicle 2 and the locked state to prevent roll of the three-wheeled vehicle 2 when the latter is slowed down or stopped. On the other hand, the anti-roll unit 20 of the three-wheeled vehicle 2 has a relatively simple structure and a relatively small size.
