Abstract
Description
DISPOSITIF DE MESURE DE PRESSION D'EAU DANS UN LIT FILTRANT, ET PROCEDE DE FILTRATION UTILISANT CE DISPOSITIF. DEVICE FOR MEASURING WATER PRESSURE IN A FILTER BED, AND FILTRATION METHOD USING THE SAME.
The invention relates to a device for measuring water pressure in a filter bed. It is recalled that a filter bed, also called biological filter, is provided to be traversed by a water to be treated and to eliminate pollution. The filter bed comprises a layer of granular material placed on a perforated support floor to allow the passage of the water to be treated through the floor and the granular material. Such filter beds are known and described in particular in the Water Technical Memo of the company DEGREMONT, 10th edition Volume 2, pages 935-946. Generally, the filter beds are of the upflow type, that is to say that the water to be treated is injected at the bottom of the bed and rises through the granular material. The passage of a certain hydraulic flow through a filter bed generates a pressure drop which depends on the granulometry of the granular material, the rate of passage in it and the biological seeding. The pressure loss created by this resistance to the flow of fluid is reflected, at each of the points located inside the filter bed, by a pressure which, for an updraft, decreases during the ascensional progression in the bed or filtering mass. For an unseeded material, the pressure increase as a function of the height in the filter bed is inversely proportional to the distance to the floor. From the moment a filter bed sees its filter material colonized by activated sludge, the progression of the hydraulic pressure as a function of the height is altered by an intrinsic disposition of the biomass produced between the deep layers and the superficial layers of the material. . The pressure drop is, in general, higher in the lower layers of the filter bed, in the case of an updraft, than in the upper layers. It is possible, for example, for a filter having a filtering layer of 3 meters, to concentrate the vast majority of the biomass (> 70%) on a filtration height of less than 1 meter located at the bottom of the structure. The operation of a filter bed under these conditions is not optimal, and it is important to optimize the effectiveness of the treatment to biologically colonize the upper layers which are not or little used in the case mentioned. It thus appears that the optimization of the operation of a filter bed passes through the knowledge of phenomena located deep in the filter material, and in particular of the pressure drop at different levels of this filter bed. The main purpose of the invention is to provide a device for measuring water pressure in the filter bed that is simple and robust and that makes it possible to determine the pressure drops at different depths of the material, without hindering the operation of the filter. filter bed. According to the invention, a device for measuring water pressure in a filter bed is characterized in that it comprises a sufficiently rigid envelope tube to be driven into the filter bed at a determined depth, and at least one measuring tube housed in the casing tube, the lower end of the measuring tube out of the casing tube to bathe in the aqueous medium of the filter bed and report the pressure conditions. Advantageously, the or each measuring tube is a flexible tube. Preferably, the device comprises a bundle of flexible measuring tubes housed in the casing tube, the axes of the flexible tubes being substantially parallel to that of the casing tube inside the latter. The lower end of each measuring tube may be extended by an upward curved portion, and be provided with a strainer. The strainer is turned upwards. The measuring tubes are advantageously transparent and collected in the up position to allow a reading of the level of liquid in each tube. In the upper part, the measuring tubes can exit laterally from the casing tube through the same opening. The measuring device is advantageously equipped with means for taking samples by suction at the upper end of the measuring tubes. The sampling means may comprise a suction pump, preferably of the manual piston type, for suction and a set of valves for connecting the suction pump with a determined measuring tube and isolating the other measuring tubes.
The upper ends of the measuring tubes can be connected to a horizontal bracket fixed to the casing tube. The stem may be formed by a pipe, and the connection of each end with the pipe is provided by a fitting with a valve, which makes it possible to establish or eliminate the communication between an associated end and the inside of the pipe, which is connected to the sampling means. The invention also consists of a filtering method on a filter bed, in particular with an upward flow, according to which a measuring device as defined above is placed in the filter bed, characterized in that the speed is changed. passage of water in the filter bed according to the results obtained using the measuring device. The invention consists, apart from the arrangements set out above, in a number of other arrangements which will be more explicitly discussed below with respect to an embodiment described with reference to the accompanying drawings, but which is in no way limiting. In these drawings: 1 is a schematic elevational view, with cut parts, of a water pressure measuring device in a filter bed 20 according to the invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on a larger scale of the measuring device. Fig. 3 is a partial elevational view, on a larger scale than in FIG. 1, of part of the measuring device with one end of a measuring tube. Fig. 4 is a view on a larger scale than in FIG. 1 of the upper part of the measuring device, and FIG. 5 is a schematic view of the parallel high ends of the measuring tubes. Referring to FIG. 1 of the drawings, we can see, schematically represented, a filter bed 1 comprising a support floor 2 provided with perforations 2a and a layer 3 of granular material supported by the floor 2, and surrounded by vertical walls. The layer 3 can reach a height of several meters, especially about 3 meters. The filter bed is of the upflow type, that is to say that the water to be treated is injected through a pipe J into a closed space 4 located under the floor 2. A pumping means (not shown) disposed upstream, delivers the water to be treated in the pipe J. The pumping means is advantageously adjustable flow rate to allow to change the rate of passage of the liquid. The water to be treated flows up as shown by the arrows F. The filter bed is closed on the top by a cover S.
The hydraulic pressure, for an upward flow, is maximum at the level of the floor 2 and minimum at the upper surface 5 of the layer 3. A sheet of water 6 covers the upper surface 5 of the bed and rises up to a level 6a. The treated water passes over a weir and is recovered in a channel R from where it is discharged through a pipe 6b. A recirculation loop is advantageously provided and includes a branch 6c on the pipe 6b. A pump P, adjustable flow, is installed on the branch 6c which joins the pipe J. By acting on the flow rate of the pump P, the rate of recycling treated water and the flow rate of water injected into the space 4. The speed of passage in the bed 3 can thus be modified. During the operation of the filter bed, the granular material of the filter layer 3 is colonized by activated sludge and the biomass production tends to be higher in the deep layers of the filter bed, close to the floor 2, than in the superficial layers. This results in heterogeneity between the lower part and the upper part of the filter bed with faster clogging of the lower part, and greater pressure drop in this lower part. Wells or foxing may occur, in which case the filter bed is not operated under good conditions. The evolution of the pressure drop in the filter bed as a function of the distance H to the floor 2 is a parameter which, if it were well known, would make it possible to improve the operation by acting on the speed of passage of the water in the filter bed.
According to the invention, to determine the evolution of the pressure drop in the filter bed 1, there is provided a device T for measuring the water pressure in the filter bed. The device T comprises a casing tube 7, in particular a metal tube, sufficiently rigid to be driven into the filter bed 1 at a determined depth and at least one measuring tube 8a, preferably flexible, housed in the casing tube 7. lower end 9a of the measuring tube 8a out of the tube 7, through an opening 7a (Fig.3) formed in this tube 7, to bathe in the aqueous medium of the filter 1 and report the pressure conditions at the upper end of the measuring tube 8a. Preferably, the device comprises a bundle of flexible measuring tubes 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d housed in the casing tube 7, the axes of the flexible tubes being substantially parallel to that of the casing tube inside the latter. According to the example shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 4, four flexible tubes 8a-8d are provided in the casing tube 7. This example is not limiting and can be provided a greater number of flexible tubes, for example seven tubes as shown in FIG. 2, with a central tube surrounded by six tubes substantially tangent externally. By way of non-limiting example, the casing tube 7 may have an outside diameter of about 30 to 40 mm, while the measuring tubes 8a ... 8d have a diameter of about 10 mm.
The lower end, such as 9a, of each measuring tube extends laterally from the casing tube 7, through an opening such as 7a (Fig.3) to bathe in the aqueous medium of the filter bed. The ends 9a ... 9d are spaced vertically, preferably at a regular distance E, the lower end 9a being close to the lower end of the tube 7. The lower end 9a ... 9d of each tube measurement is extended by a portion 11 (Fig.3) bent upwards and provided at its upper end with a strainer 10. Advantageously, the curved portion 11 is formed by a metal tube, in particular a stainless steel tube, bent U-shaped whose branch near the rigid tube 7 is engaged in the end 9a of the flexible tube 8a and the other branch is provided with the strainer 10. The concavity of the part 11 is oriented upwards, as well as the strainer 10, to prevent the entry of air bubbles into the measuring tube 8a. The strainer 10 is advantageously made of stainless steel and is provided with holes whose diameter is at most equal to 1 mm. The whole of the strainer 10 and the part 11 is removable, and is carried by a transverse element 12 fixed to the support tube 7. The flexible measuring tubes 8a ... 8d are preferably transparent and made of plastic. The upper ends 13a-13d (Fig.1 and 4) of the measuring tubes are assembled to allow a reading of the liquid level in each flexible tube. These high ends 13a-13d are substantially parallel with their axes in the same plane.
The casing tube 7 has a length of about 2.5 m longer than the height of the filter bed 3. The length of the casing tube 7 may be of the order of 5.5 m for a height of about 3 m from the filter bed. In the upper part, the measurement tubes 8a-8d exit laterally through the same opening 14 (FIG. 4) formed in the wall of the tube 7. The lower end of the casing tube 7 is closed in a frustoconical point (FIG. to facilitate penetration into the filter bed. The high ends 13a-13d of the measuring tubes are connected to a horizontal bracket formed by a rigid pipe 16 fixed, in particular welded, to the casing tube 7. The connection of each end 13a-13d with the pipe 16 is provided by a fitting provided with a valve 17a-17d, including ball valve, which makes it possible to establish or eliminate the communication between an associated end 13a-13d and the inside of the pipe 16. The end of the pipe 16 remote from the casing tube 7 is equipped with a valve 18, in particular with ball, to put the pipe 16 in communication with the atmosphere or to isolate it. The other end of the pipe 16 adjacent to the tube 7 is closed.
Between the valve 18 and the nearest valve 17a, a tapping is carried out with a tube 19 orthogonal to the pipe 16. The pipe 19 is connected to the suction of a suction pump 20 via a valve 21, preferably ball-shaped. The suction pump 20, schematically shown without being scaled to the other parts of the drawing, is preferably of the manual piston pump type, with valves 22a, 22b. With the valve 18 closed, the valve 21 open and one of the valves 17a-17d, the others being closed, the activation of the pump 20 causes a suction effect in that of the measuring tubes 8a-8d whose tap 17a-17d remained open. A sample of water from this measuring tube is thus taken from the tank 23 fixed under the pump body. This sampling makes it possible to specify at which pollution treatment level a selected point is situated as a function of its distance from the introduction of water to be treated in the filter.
Fig. 5 schematically shows the upper ends 13a-13f of six flexible tubes housed in the same casing tube and whose lower ends open at different heights above the floor of the filter bed. The measuring tube corresponding to the end 13a opens in the vicinity of the floor 2 while the following measuring tubes open at increasingly higher heights above the floor of the filter bed. The Na level of the water column, in the end 13a, corresponds to the pressure expressed in centimeters of water column in the vicinity of the floor of the filter bed. The Nb ... Nf levels of the water columns in the other measuring tubes also represent the pressure at different heights above the floor of the filter bed. The hydraulic head loss at different heights above the floor corresponds to the differences (Na - Nf), (Nb - Nf) ... (Nf - Nf). The use of the measuring device of the invention and its operation for the filtration process are as follows. The filter being in filtration mode, the casing tube 7, equipped with measuring tubes 8a-8d, is pushed vertically into the filter bed, preferably until the tip 15 touches the floor 2. An opening is provided in the lid S for the passage of the tube 7. Water columns of different height rise in the different tubes, but remain invisible to the operator, because the water levels are located, for some, under the cover S of the filter. With the suction pump 20, an identical vacuum is created in all the pipes; pumping is stopped when the position of all the levels in the measuring tubes is visible to the operator on the filter as shown in Fig.1. Reading the different levels, as shown in Figure 5, allows to appreciate the pressure losses at different points of the filter bed.
This level reading can be provided by an operator, in the case of manual operation, or by sensors in the case of automated operation. If the variation of the pressure drops as a function of the height above the floor reveals irregularities, in particular if the pressure loss is much higher in the lower layers of the filter bed, an increase in the speed of passage of the liquid in the filter bed is then controlled by increasing the flow of liquid injected into the space 4. This increase in flow can be obtained by increasing the flow rate of treated water recirculated by the pump P, and / or by increasing the flow rate of water to treat. This increase in the speed of passage can be controlled manually by an operator, or automatically by a regulation. The increase in the speed of passage is, however, limited by the decrease in the efficiency of the treatment. According to the invention, a measurement is performed while the filter, or filter bed, is in filtration, and the measurement relates to a dynamic pressure drop due to the flow of water through the packing more or less colonized by the biomass. The invention makes it possible to exploit a filter bed under better conditions, and to distribute the incoming pollution to the upper layers of less used granular material, with an implantation of the biomass in the entire filter volume.
