Abstract

The device has a part (4) fixed to a handle (3) or a knife guard (2) and having an end terminated by a point (7) surrounded by sharp blades (5, 6). A knife is held by a user using the handle to support the point at a joint of two valves of oysters. The user carries out a continuous and alternate movement of the handle in clockwise direction and then in opposite direction to exert a pressure on the point for breaking an oyster shell.

Description

2875115 12875115 1

The present invention relates to a device for facilitating and securing the opening of oysters and molluscs.

The opening of oysters is traditionally done with an oyster knife which may hurt the inexperienced user.

The device according to the invention comprises a piece (4), preferably stainless, approximately 5 to 6 mm in diameter, fixed to the handle (3) of a knife or in its guard (FIGS. 1, 5, 6) (2). ).

Its end whose detail is seen enlarged in Figures 2, 3 and 4, has in the center a tip (7) of pyramidal type with sharp edges.

This tip (7) of a length of 2 to 3 mm is surrounded by two wings (5) and (6) sharp, a little shorter than the tip.

The arrangement and shape of these fins are shown in Figures 2,3 and 4.

The user holds the knife by the handle, thumb pressed on the guard (2), which gives it a better grip (Figure 5).

The user presses the tip (7) at the joint of the two valves, towards the center of the oyster. (Figures 5 and 6).

The user then makes a rotational movement of about 1/2 turn clockwise (arrow 8) and then in the opposite direction (arrow 9) while exerting pressure on the tip (arrow 10) to push it in in the shell.

Securing the point (7) to the shell prevents any slippage of the part.

The user holding the oyster in his other hand can turn the oyster in the opposite direction to increase the efficiency of movement.

The edge of the oyster caught by the two fins and the tip is chipped, then hollowed by this alternating movement of rotation, four or five rotations are often sufficient.

It is not necessary to dig a cavity of more than 3 to 4 mm to accommodate the point of the knife in this cavity.

2875115 2 The user then very easily and safely drives the blade (1) inside the oyster to cut the muscle and open the oyster.

If the user does not position the tip precisely at the joint of the two valves, it can nevertheless dig a small cavity, which is an advantage for the visually impaired.

According to non-illustrated variants, the end of the piece has the shape of a cutter or a grinding wheel.

In this case, we do not benefit from the pincer effect described above.

A removable cap protects the tips during periods of non-use.
