The technical sector of the present invention is that of motorcycle headlights, and more particularly of the headlight intended for lighting the road.

The headlights currently used on motorcycles are fixed, which creates several disadvantages. The first drawbacks noted are linked to driving comfort, when the brakes are pressed the beam dips forward, which greatly reduces its range. Similarly, when cornering, the width of the light beam is reduced because of its inclination (linked to the motorcycle). In addition, the orientation of the beam (tangential to the trajectory) penalizes visibility inside the turn. The second type of fault found relates to safety. Indeed, when a motorcycle follows a car, the movement of the beam due to the accelerations of the motorcycle dazzles the motorist. We find this dazzling effect when the motorcycle crosses a car in a bend, because the oblong shape of the beam combined with the inclination of the motorcycle annoys the motorist who receives the lighting directly in the eyes. In addition to the comfort and safety of other riders, the personal safety aspect of the rider must also be considered. In a bend, it is necessary to see far to be able to react in time in the event of an obstacle or if the bend suddenly closes. Unfortunately, a lighthouse lights up in front of him and on current motorcycles, the lighting in the distance and in the curve is insufficient. This considerably reduces the driver's field of vision and prevents him from anticipating any obstacles or difficulties related to the geometry of the road.

The object of the present invention is to provide a device remedying these defects while remaining integrable on a vehicle, such as a motorcycle, a jet ski, a snowmobile or even a speedboat. This device makes it possible not only to correct the inclinations of the vehicle but also, when it approaches a turn, to anticipate the trajectory of it, that is to say to determine and illuminate the place where the vehicle will be located.

n secondes plus tard en appliquant une différence d'angle, entre la tangente à la trajectoire de la moto et la direction éclairée par le phare, nommée angle de lacets.  n seconds later by applying a difference in angle, between the tangent to the path of the motorcycle and the direction illuminated by the headlight, called angle of laces.

We already know for some cars, especially on Citroën DS, a system connecting the headlights of the car to the steering controls. This principle is not applicable to motorcycles, since the trajectory followed is not directly linked to the orientation of the front wheel, but to the inclination of the motorcycle and its speed.

There is also for the attitude correction a system developed by BMW and marketed under the name of "Telelever" which keeps the motorbike horizontal during braking by acting on its fork.

A technique used for trajectory anticipation is to couple the headlight controls to a satellite positioning system, of the GPS type, but this system is very expensive and too bulky to be integrated on a motorcycle.

The invention therefore relates to a motorcycle lighting control device, characterized in that it comprises means making it possible to modify the angles of attitude, roll and laces of the headlight, when the motorcycle is moving.

According to a characteristic of the invention, the device comprises at least one accelerometer making it possible to know the vertical acceleration of the motorcycle.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the device comprises means making it possible to determine the inclination of the motorcycle along the x, y and / or z axes, these means possibly being gyroscopes.

According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the device comprises a control means acting on the orientation mechanism of the headlight so as to control the angles of attitude, roll and laces of the headlight, during the inclination of the motorbike.

Selon une autre caractéristique de l'invention, le dispositif comprend des moyens de calculs permettant de déterminer la trajectoire de la moto en fonction de son  According to another characteristic of the invention, the device comprises calculation means making it possible to determine the trajectory of the motorcycle as a function of its

According to another characteristic of the invention, the control means acts on the headlight orientation mechanism so as to orient the lighting of the motorcycle in the direction of the calculated path.

An application of the invention is that to vehicles whose driving and / or behavior is close to that of a motorcycle in that they are likely to be subjected to a strong attitude and / or a strong roll during their displacement, these vehicles can be a snowmobile, a jet ski, or even a speedboat
A very first advantage of the device according to the invention lies in the fact that, even when driving at night, the driver of the motorcycle will have a correct vision of the road, including when it is curvy.

Another advantage lies in the fact that the headlight only lights the road and is no longer a nuisance for other vehicles when accelerating or tilting the motorcycle.

Another advantage lies in the fact that this system is inexpensive, easily achievable and sufficiently compact to be integrated in the fairing of the motorcycles currently in use, which makes it possible to integrate it during the series mounting of the motorcycles.

<Desc/Clms Page number 4><Desc / Clms Page number 4>

principes de l'invention.  principles of the invention.

FIG. 1 represents a motorcycle 1 equipped with a lighting control device according to the invention. A Cartesian coordinate system is associated with motorcycle 1, the X axis represents the main axis of the motorcycle and the direction in which this motorcycle rides and the Y axis is the axis of rotation of the wheels. The angle of inclination # of motorcycle 1 along the X axis is called roll and the angle of inclination along the Y axis is called attitude. The lighting control device comprises a headlight 2, a headlight orientation mechanism 3, a control means 4 and a housing 5 of sensors. The housing 5 contains several sensors of known type (shown in FIG. 3) making it possible to know the attitude and the roll of the motorcycle 1. This housing is also connected to the tachometer 54 of the motorcycle.

FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the headlight orientation mechanism 3 2. The orientation mechanism is composed of three motors 21, 22 and 23, a crown 24, a stirrup 25 and a stirrup 26.

The crown 24 is integral with the headlight 2. It is rotated about the axis Z 'by the motor 23.

The motor 23 is fixed on the stirrup 25. The stirrup 25 is rotated about the axis Y 'by the motor 22 fixed on the stirrup 26 (partially shown in the figure). The stirrup 26 is itself driven in rotation about the axis X 'by the motor 21 fixed on the frame of the motorcycle 1. These three motors therefore make it possible to direct the headlight 2 along three perpendicular axes. It can be noted that when the roll and trim angles are zero, the axes X and X ', Y and Y' and Z and Z 'are parallel. In addition, the principle of the invention is precisely to keep the axes Z and Z 'constantly parallel, whatever the inclinations of the motorcycle.

This example is given as an indication, other embodiments are possible, for example by keeping a fixed light source and by rotating the lens.

<Desc/Clms Page number 5><Desc / Clms Page number 5>

du phare afin de diriger le faisceau lumineux.  of the lighthouse to direct the light beam.

FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the housing 5 of sensors. The housing 5 contains two inclination sensors (51x and 51 y) measuring the inclination of the motorcycle along the X and Y axes, an acceleration sensor 52z, measuring the acceleration along the Z axis, a connection to the tachometer 54 of motorcycle 1, and a converter 50 which centralizes the data and communicates it by means 4 of control.

Measuring the acceleration along the Z axis makes it possible to verify that the orientation of the headlight is not offset. Indeed, when this sensor indicates that the motorcycle is perfectly vertical, the control means 4 can reset the tilt instructions.

Figures 4a to 4c illustrate the principle of trajectory anticipation as achieved by the invention. At time t, the motorcycle 1 is at a point A and moves along a curve C. For reasons of safety and driving comfort, the driver wishes to illuminate the interior of the turn, that is to say the 'place B where his motorcycle will ride n seconds later (taking into account the reaction time of an average driver when faced with an unforeseen obstacle, we can consider that n is between 1.5 and 4 seconds).

To calculate y, the angle between the axes X and X ', you need to know the radius R of the curve C and the speed V of the motorcycle 1, or R depends on <p, the roll angle, according to the formula from motorcycle dynamics: R = V2 / (g.tan #), g being the acceleration of gravity.

The calculation of y is a geometric calculation which is carried out using diagram 4c. By the properties of the triangles, we notice that: Y = # / 2.

De plus,
X=n.V/R,
Moreover,
X = nV / R,

<Desc/Clms Page number 6><Desc / Clms Page number 6>

donc Y=n (g.tan#)/2V.  therefore Y = n (g.tan #) / 2V.

Thus, from the different data provided by the sensor housing 5 and the tachometer 54 of the motorcycle 1, the control means 3 can calculate and control the orientation to be given to the headlight 2 in order to anticipate its trajectory.

The anticipation at n seconds is adjustable depending on the driver.

In addition, the driver can also adjust the control means 3 in order to adjust the anticipation not over a time of n seconds but over a distance of m meters. The lighthouse orientation setpoint then becomes: Y = (g.tan #) / 2m
Such a device is intended to be fully automatic. The control system 4 alone manages the corrective actions to be applied to the headlight 2. However, it is intended that this system can be deactivated.
