Abstract
Description

Cosmetic composition comprising the combination of a nanopigment of metal oxides and an antioxidant, and its use for the protection of the skin and hair.
The subject of the invention is a cosmetic composition comprising, in association with metal oxide nanopigments, at least one antioxidant agent chosen from polyphenols, with the exclusion of esters formed from gallic acid and aliphatic monoalcohols, and its use for the protection of the human epidermis and the hair and the make-up of the skin and the hair These nanopigments of metal oxides, particularly titanium dioxides, are more and more used in products for the skin and hair because of their properties of diffusion and reflection of ultraviolet radiation. Used alone, they provide good protection against ultraviolet rays. Associated with low concentrations of organic filters, they lead to obtaining highly protective products.
However, exposure to light of metallic oxide pigments with a particle size of less than 100 nm, called "nanopigments", can cause a photoinduced reaction detrimental to the stability of cosmetic compositions, in particular those which contain lipids.
The light irradiation of the compositions containing nanopigments of metal oxides catalyzes the oxidation of organic compounds sensitive to oxidation, in particular of the lipids contained in the formulations based on nanopigments.
There is also an instability in the light of compositions containing metal oxide nanopigments, reflected in particular for titanium oxides, by the appearance of a bluish-gray color of the cosmetic products in contact with daylight, also called photobluing.
Faced with these inconveniences, surface treated pigments have appeared on the market in order to limit the phenomenon of photoinduced activity. Thus, patent application WO 90/09777 proposes to treat titanium oxide nanopigments with phosphate anions. Patent application JP 03 183620 describes zinc oxide nanopigments treated with a combination of alumina and silica. These surface treatments aimed at reducing the photocatalytic activity are however not satisfactory and the reduction of the phenomenon remains insufficient.
The Applicant has discovered, surprisingly, that the introduction of certain antioxidant agents in cosmetic compositions containing nanopigments of metal oxides with a particle size of less than 100 nm makes it possible to reduce, or even inhibit the peroxidation of lipids on the one hand , and photobleaching of cosmetic products, on the other hand.
The present invention therefore relates to a cosmetic composition comprising, in combination, at least one nanopigment of metal oxides with a particle size of less than 100 nm and at least one antioxidant agent chosen from polyphenols, with the exception of esters formed from gallic acid and aliphatic monoalcohols, in a cosmetically acceptable carrier, the composition not containing a product having a peroxidase activity capable of reducing organic peroxides.
Another object of the invention consists of the use of these antioxidant agents to reduce or inhibit the photoinduced reaction of the metal oxide nanopigments.
The subject of the invention is also a method of protecting the human epidermis and the hair against ultraviolet radiation and a method of making up.
Other objects will appear on reading the description and examples which follow.
In the following text, the term “nanopigment” will be understood to mean a pigment with an average diameter of less than 100 nm and preferably between 5 and 50 nm.
The metal oxides are chosen from titanium, zinc, cerium, zirconium oxides or their mixtures.
The nanopigments can be coated or uncoated.
The coated pigments are pigments which have undergone one or more surface treatments of chemical, electronic, mechanochemical and / or mechanical nature with compounds as described for example in Cosmetics & Toiletries, February 1990, Vol. 105, p.53-64, such as amino acids, beeswax, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, anionic surfactants, lecithins, sodium, potassium, zinc, iron or aluminum salts of fatty acids, metal alkoxides (titanium or aluminum), polyethylene, silicones, proteins (collagen, elastin), alkanolamines, silicon oxides, metal oxides or sodium hexametaphosphate, polyols, perfluorinated oils.

One can also use combinations of coated or uncoated titanium oxide nanopigments made dispersible in water by a hydrophilic treatment or dispersible in oils by a hydrophobic treatment such as those described in European patent application 456460.
Mention may also be made of mixtures of metal oxides, in particular of titanium dioxide and cerium dioxide, including the equiponderal mixture of titanium dioxide and cerium dioxide coated with silica, sold by the company IKEDA under the name "SUNVEIL A ", as well as the mixture of titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide coated with alumina, silica and silicone such as the product" M 261 "sold by the company KEMIRA or coated with alumina, silica and glycerin such than the product "M 211" sold by the company KEMIRA.
