Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a system for the generation of microwave jumps, that is to say a system making it possible to generate at its output an electrical signal at very high frequency whose frequency varies at a high rate, so that, during very short successive periods of time, said frequency changes from one period to the next, but remains constant during each of said periods. For example, the system according to the invention transmits UHF signals of different frequencies in less than 500 microseconds, at the rate of 64 frequency changes per second. Such a system is particularly, although not exclusively, suitable for use as a carrier wave generator in a protected frequency evasion transmission system.
associe.According to the invention, a system of the type described above is remarkable in that it comprises - a first and a second generator, capable of generating at their respective outputs an electrical signal with controlled variable frequency; - frequency control means, common to the two generators - a first and a second controlled switches disposed respectively between said output of said system and the outputs of said first and second generators - respective locking means of said first and second generators; and - control means acting on said controlled switches and on said locking means, so that, within each of said successive time periods, two successive phases appear, such as
during the first of said phases, said first or
second generator transmits the frequency corresponding to
the previous time period and is locked on
this frequency, which it addresses at said output of said
system through the switch associates, while
said second or first generator is unlocked and
agrees on the frequency corresponding to the period
but is isolated from said output from said
system by the action of the associated switch; and
during the second of said phases, said second or
first generator transmits the frequency corresponding to
the current time period and is locked on
this frequency, which it addresses at said output of said
system through the switch associates, while the
first or second generator is unlocked and able
to agree on the frequency corresponding to the
following period from the start of it but is
isolated from said output by the action of the switch
associate.
Thus, according to the invention, one of the generators transmits while the other is tuned, so that it is possible to obtain jumps of very high frequency temporally close together.
Preferably, each of said first and second generators is of the known type with digital indirect frequency synthesis comprising a phase comparator, a filtering system, a voltage-controlled oscillator, a divider feedback loop and a clock generator. In this case, said frequency control means act on said dividers to change the division ratio and on said voltage control oscillators to obtain the desired frequency. Thus, the action of said frequency control means corresponds to a coarse adjustment of frequency of said generators, while the feedback loop of these imposes a fine adjustment of frequency, from said coarsely adjusted frequency. The tuning of the generators on a frequency is therefore accelerated. As described in the French patent application No. 87.02848, filed on March 3, 1987 in the name of the Applicant, the coarse and fine frequency settings can be respectively obtained by adjusting the values of the inductance and the capacity of the resonant circuits of the voltage-controlled oscillators of said generators.
Said first and second controlled switches are preferably PIN type diodes, advantageous for their breaking capacity at very high frequency.
Les créneaux adressés respectivement par lesdits moyens de commande auxdits moyens de verrouillage peuvent être déphasés de 900.Said control means are for example a generator emitting voltage slots varying between two voltage levels, said locking means respectively locking or unlocking said first and second generators for one or the other of said slot levels. Preferably, these slots are transmitted in response to clock pulses transmitted by a clock. The slots addressed respectively by said control means to said locking means can be phase shifted by 900.
Preferably, said clock is capable of transmitting either said clock pulses or a continuous voltage level and a switch is provided making it possible, at the option of an operator, to address said clock pulses to said control means or said continuous bearing.
Thus, during such a continuous voltage level, said control means can force one of said first or second generators to transmit a fixed frequency, as long as said continuous level lasts. This increases the possibilities of operation of the system according to the present invention.
For certain applications, it may be advantageous that, during such a continuous voltage level, said fixed frequency is preferentially transmitted by one of said first and second generators, rather than by the other.
The figures of the appended drawing will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
Figure 1 is the block diagram of the system according to the present invention.
Les diagrammes a à f de la figure 2 sont des chronogrammes illustrant le fonctionnement du système de la figure 1.The diagrams a to f in FIG. 2 are timing diagrams illustrating the operation of the system in FIG. 1.
Le système générateur de fréquence, conforme à la présente invention et illustré schématiquement sur la figure 1, comporte deux générateurs synthétiseurs indirects de fréquence 1 et 2, associés à un oscillateur stable 3 et reliés à la sortie 4 dudit système, respectivement à travers des interrupteurs commandés 5 et 6, de préférence des diodes PIN.The frequency generator system, in accordance with the present invention and illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 1, comprises two indirect synthesizer generators of frequency 1 and 2, associated with a stable oscillator 3 and connected to the output 4 of said system, respectively by switches 5 and 6, preferably PIN diodes.
Each indirect synthesizer generator of frequency 1 or 2 is of known structure and comprises - a phase comparator 7.1 or 7.2, receiving the signal from the stable oscillator 3 - a filtering device 8.1 or 8.2, receiving the signal from the corresponding phase comparator 7.1 or 7.2 - a voltage controlled oscillator 9.1 or 9.2, of the type
VC0, receiving the signal filtered by the corresponding filtering device 8.1 or 8.2 - a frequency divider 10.1 or 10.2, connected to the output 11.1 or 11.2 of the corresponding oscillator 9.1 or 9.2 and sending its output signal to the associated phase comparator 7.1 or 7.2.
Il en résulte de façon connue l'asservissement de la fréquence du signal à la sortie 11.1 ou 11.2 de l'oscillateur 9.1 ou 9.2 à la fréquence de l'oscillateur stable 3, multipliée par le coefficient de division du diviseur 10.1 ou 10.2.In frequency synthesizers of the type to which synthesizers 1 and 2 belong, the phase comparator 7.1 or 7.2 permanently compares the phase of the signal emitted by the stable oscillator 3 and the phase of the signal en: is by the oscillator 9.1 or 9.2 and divided by the divider 10.1 or 10.2. This results in a known way the enslavement of the frequency of the signal at the output 11.1 or 11.2 of the oscillator 9.1 or 9.2 to the frequency of the stable oscillator 3, multiplied by the coefficient of division of the divider 10.1 or 10.2.
If this division coefficient is varied, one can use such a synthesizer 1 or 2 for the control of a plurality of different frequencies of the output signal of the oscillator 9.1 or 9.2.
The system represented in FIG. 1 comprises frequency control means 12 intended to control the generators 1 and 2. These frequency control means 12, constituted for example by the control logic (generator of frequency code) of a frequency evasion protected transmission system, are intended to impose a specific frequency on output 4 (such as
F2, F3, F4, F5 in diagram a of Figure 2) during consecutive time intervals (such as t2-t1, t3-t2, t4-t3, t5-t4). To do this, the frequency control means 12 control the division ratio of the dividers 10.1 and 10.2 and the oscillators 9.1 and 9.2.
Between the frequency control means 12 and said oscillators 9.1 and 9.2 are interlocked with locking means 13.1 and 13.2 respectively.
Furthermore, the system includes a clock 14 capable of emitting either a continuous voltage step P or pulses of holorge I, as is shown diagrammatically in diagram b of FIG. 2.
Un commutateur 15, volontairement commandable par un opérateur, permet d'adresser à des moyens de commande 16, soit ledit palier de tension P, soit lesdites impulsions d'horloge I.A switch 15, voluntarily controllable by an operator, makes it possible to address to control means 16, either said voltage level P, or said clock pulses I.
Ces signaux S1 et S2 sont respectivement formés de paliers P1 ou P2 lorsque lesdits moyens de commande 16 reçoivent un palier P, ou de créneaux C1 ou C2 lorsque lesdits moyens de commande 16 reçoivent des impulsions I.Said control means 16 generate, at their outputs 17.1 and 17.2, signals S1 and S2, respectively intended to control the locking means 13.1 and the switch 5, on the one hand, and the locking means 13.2 and the switch 6, on the other hand (see diagrams c and d in FIG. 2). These signals S1 and S2 are respectively formed of stages P1 or P2 when said control means 16 receive a stage P, or of slots C1 or C2 when said control means 16 receive pulses I.
As can be seen in Figure 2
slots C1 and C2 start and end on rising edges of pulses I
the C1 and C2 slots are 900 phase shifted, the C1 slots appear during the space of time between two consecutive C2 slots and vice versa
a C1 window starts (or ends) when a window
C2 stops (or begins) and vice versa.
An example of the operation of the frequency generator system of FIG. 1 is described below with reference to the timing diagrams of FIG. 2. On these, it has been assumed that, initially, the switches 5 and 6 were respectively closed and open and that the synthesizer generator 1 applied to output 4 a signal of frequency F1. In this initial situation, the switch 15 addresses a bearing P to the control means 16, which themselves address a bearing P1 to the locking device 13.1 and a bearing P2 to the locking device 13.2.
In FIG. 2, it is further assumed that - at an instant tl, the frequency code generator 2 requests that the frequency F1 at the output 4, be modified to become F2 (see diagram a) - at an instant tri ', slightly before tl, the switch 15 is toggled, so that, from this instant, it is the pulses I emitted by the clock device 14 which are sent to the control device 16. Consequently, the sequences of slots C1 and C2 appear respectively on outputs 17.1 and 17.2 of the control device 16.
Between time tl 'and time t2', at which the first pulse I and the first slot C1 occur, the device 13.1 locks the synthesizer generator 1, so that it continues to transmit the frequency F1. In addition, the switches 5 and 6 remain in their initial position, so that this frequency is present on the output 14.
A l'instant t2', le dispositif de commande 16 ouvre l'interrupteur 5 et ferme l'interrupteur 6, de sorte que, à la sortie 4, la fréquence F1 émise par le générateur synthétiseur 1 est remplacée par la fréquence F2 émise par le générateur synthétiseur 2.On the other hand, during the interval which separates the instants tl 'and t2' and which corresponds to a portion of slot C2 of the signal S2, the synthesizer generator 2 is not locked by the device 13.2, so that this synthesizer can be preposition on the frequency F2 during the interval tl t2 '. At time t2 ', the control device 16 opens the switch 5 and closes the switch 6, so that, at the output 4, the frequency F1 emitted by the synthesizer generator 1 is replaced by the frequency F2 emitted by the synthesizer generator 2.
The establishment of this frequency F2 does not take place exactly at time t2 ', but at a time t2 "slightly later, because of the delays imposed by the circuits.
Also, when at time t2, comprised between t2 ′ and t4 ′, the frequency code generator 12 requests that the output frequency be changed from F2 to F3, the synthesizer generator 1 can preposition itself on this frequency F3. The synthesizer generator 2 transmits its frequency F2 on the output 14, until the instant t4 ', moment at which the control means 16 close the switch 5 and open the switch 6. Consequently, on the output 4, the frequency F2 ceases to be emitted by the synthesizer generator, and is replaced, with a slight delay, at time t4 "by the frequency F3, emitted by the synthesizer generator 1.
Ceci est illustré par les diagrammes e et f de la figure 2.We thus see that, if pulses I appear respectively between times t2 'and t3', t4 'and t5', t6 'and t7', t8 'and t9', the frequencies F2 and F4 are emitted by the synthesizer generator 2 , respectively during the intervals t4 '- t2 "(with t2" slightly later than t2') and t8'-t6 "(with t6" slightly later than t6 '), while the frequencies F3 and F5 are transmitted by the synthesizer generator 1, respectively during the interval t6'-t4 "(with t4" slightly later than t4 ') and from time t8 "(slightly later than t8'). This is illustrated by diagrams e and f of the figure 2.
If at an instant t10 'after t9', the switch 15 is toggled back to address a level P to the control means 16, we see that the synthesizer generator 2 will be able to transmit the frequency F6 from the instant tao ", slightly after t10 '. Even if the level P corresponding to F6 continues over time, it may be advantageous that, at an instant tll' after t10 ", the system switches back to the generation of the frequency F6 on the synthesizer generator 1 (see diagrams e and f).
