Utilisation
Modular element of tubular construction
use
By assembling them, all identical modular elements serve to build structures in continuous vertical or horizontal layers, or posts. These structures are intended for the construction of architectural complexes, planks, retaining walls, partitioning, etc. They can also be used for the realization of. any work of art such as bridges, walkways, antennas. The design of the structure also allows its use for the manufacture of furniture, displays, decorations. The lightness and resistance of the structure: made: according to the process described in this patent could allow their use during 3rd orbital stations. A manufacturing variant of the modular elements is oriented towards earthquake-resistant construction. It is therefore a very general construction structure.
Figure 2 shows a model of these elements.
Figures 3, 17, and 18 show examples of mounting and structure. Figure 17 shows how the elements are arranged in a vertical sheet, and Figure 3, in a pole. We can also see the anchoring of the structure on the ground. Figure 6 gives a

Déscription.Description.
A modular element consists of two inverted pyramids. assembled at their respective peaks. These pyramids are formed by concurrent inclined uprights (Fig l, 6, and 7 elements 4 and 5 \ and tie rods (horizontal tie rods) forming the base of the pyramid (Fig 1, 6 and 7 element 2). The two pyramids thus assemblies are stabilized by four tie rods (vertical tie rods) connecting the respective tops of the opposite vases (Fig 6 and 7 element 1>. The cohesion of the entire modular element is then ensured by nodes located at each of the vertices of the parallelepiped thus formed I Fig 2, fi and 7 element 7) .These knots are also used to join the modular elements together (Fig 11, 12, 13 and 14) in order to obtain the sheets or the posts. They can be used as a point for anchoring the structure, and also as an attachment point for the various waterproofing panels, acoustic or thermal.
To form horizontal layers, the BASE element consists of two pyramids, a vertical tie, and two knots. Under these conditions, the ply works on bending, and the horizontal tie rods subjected to traction can be doubled in order to increase the resistance of the assembly. The compression forces are taken up by the uprights of the pyramids.
To form vertical layers, the BASE element consists of two pyramids, two vertical tie rods, and two knots. Under these conditions, the sheet works with compression and following the assemblies. flexion. so w buckling.
To form poles. the BASIC element consists of two identical pyramids. four identical vertical tie rods. and four identical nodes.
However. if the post has to undergo torsional forces, it is preferable to reinforce the moment of gyration of the structure. either by making a post made up of two joined elements, quite * use elements of smaller size. either by providing reinforcement braces to prevent rotation. Figure 3 shows a post formed of two elements. When the posts do not support significant couples. it is possible to just reinforce the connection between the vertices of the pyramids with two or four nuts instead of one, as shown in Figure 4.
Here are the different steps for mounting a module
-Assemble the two pyramids by their vertices
-Assemble the knots at each of the corners of the base of the lower pyramid.
Régler la tension des tirants.- Screw the tie rods on the knots in place
Screw the other four knots to the upper ends of the tie rods and adjust the length of the tie rods
Attach these nodes to the module
Adjust the tension of the tie rods.
Manufacturing, materials, dimensions
There are three kinds of tubes in the structure:
There are uprights of the pyramids which will work on compression. For a pyramid, two crushed and bent tubes are used at their attachment points to make these uprights.
- There are the horizontal tie rods forming the bus of the pyramids. Each base is made from a continuous tube, crushed and bent at the corners.
- There are the vertical tie rods which can be produced either from tubes. either from rods, the ends of which will be threaded in the same or opposite directions, or from threaded rods.
1 length of pinches on each tube * these intersections are provided so that the two tubes fit together in the other. They are drilled to allow the passage of the wash or the assembly bolt
The dimensions of each of these tubes. length. thickness diameter. are * determined according to the size of the desired modular element, and also according to the loads that the structure will have to bear. These are climatic loads, self-weight. and the payloads weighted by the safety coefficients according to French standards. The uprights must be calculated to withstand the compression forces and resist buckling.
For a tall structure. it is possible to use elements having the same overall dimensions over the entire height. with lighter tubes at the top. In fact, these will be less stressed because they support fewer loads (self-weight). This solution allows a significant weight gain for large constructions. It is also possible to produce elements having sides of different lengths: for example. we can have elements higher than wide to make antennas or poles. For vertical panels. tall and long, but shallow elements.
The uprights and tie rods can be made from any material: stainless steel, soft iron, light alloys, plastics, etc ... depending on the use and the corrosive environment of the structure. For materials degrading by oxidation.
il conviendra de les protéger avec les moyens habituels: anti-rouille, peinture. they should be protected with the usual means: anti-rust, paint.
protection électrolytique par report d'oxydation sur des plaques prévues å cet effet ...electrolytic protection by oxidation transfer on plates provided for this purpose ...
The knots are parts that are used primarily for traction. They can be obtained from different manufacturing methods. and in different materials. These can be parts molded from light alloys or plastic, then machined
We avoid the fonb which resists traction forces very badly. Three knot solutions obtained by different manufacturing methods are presented:
-a molded knot solution (figures 8 and 9 element 7)
-a solution of knots obtained * from square tubes and two folded flat irons (Figures 10 and 11 elements 12 and 13)
-a knot solution obtained from flat irons bent and welded with welded nuts (Figures 13 and 14 elements 16,18,19.)
Each node can receive eight module angles and two vertical tie rods. It must therefore have a total of eight attachment points on its "sides" and two on the "tops".
For molded knots (see Figures 8 and 9) the connection with the pyramids (2,4,5) is achieved by screws (6) screwed into the knot. (esvis can be blocked by split washers. The connection between the vertical tie rods (Fig 9-1) and the knots is ensured by screwing the tie rods into the knots. To allow the tension of these tie rods to be adjusted, the machined threads * each of their ends will have reversed steps, b adjustment done by turning the tie rods. Once adjusted, the tie rods can be locked by a washer (10) and a lock nut (9). They will be made from rods Passage holes (Fig 8-26) of anchor hooks through the nodes are obtained in the foundry by cores.
For square tube knots (see Figures 10,11,12) the connection with the pyramids is carried out by bolts and washers (14), through holes being drilled * this effect in the tubes. vertical (11) and the knots is made using flat irons (12) folded and held at the knots by the pyramid tightening bolts. The tension adjustment being made by the nuts (20) it is not necessary that the threads at the end of each tie are reversed. The vertical tie rods can be simple threaded rods Once the adjustment has been made. locknuts (15) block the tie rod in place. The anchor hooks pass through the knot.
The knots designed with flat irons (see Figures 13, 14. 15. 16) are made by two identical flat irons drilled and bent into a U (18. 19). inverted, then enclosed one inside the other and welded together. The connection with the pyramids is carried out by bolts (16 and 17) whose nut (16) is welded * inside the node during manufacture. The vertical tie rods (23) are fixed to the nodes by a nut system (24) lock nut (25) i through the holes in the node drilled for this purpose (21 and 22). Sufficient space (27) for the passage of a wrench and a nut is provided to allow tightening of the nut This model of knot does not allow the passage of anchor bars which will be through the lower hole intended for the lower vertical tie and leaves free .
Advantages of a structure made from modular elements.
Metal construction has the advantage of lightness compared to traditional construction methods (concrete parpins) due to the very high resistance of metals. In addition, the particular shape of the structure makes it possible to mesh the space with back "non-deformable" elements working both in traction and in compression.
The originality of the design based on crushed and bent tubes of small dimensions makes it a structure of great resistance, easy to transport and to assemble: a structure made from these modular elements is assembled with a few tools in a very short time .
The vertical supports, as well as the floors are made from the same elements, which implies only one mounting and manufacturing mode, therefore, again, saving time.
The elements can be used in traction. therefore can be used to suspend loads rather than support them.
The fact that the elements are removable makes it possible to create scalable structures, and to easily modify architectural spaces.
It is possible to produce "flexible" structures, for example by using braided metal cables for vertical tie rods. This solution is to be considered for earthquake-resistant constructions, the flexibility of the structure absorbing the vertical or horizontal vibrations of the ground. However, it will be necessary at this time to carry out studies of the natural frequency of this kind of structure, because if the stiffness decreases. the frequency of resonance also. and we run the risk of falling within the frequency range of natural phenomena (mainly wind).
The lightness and high resistance to all kinds of constraints of the structure, as well as its ease of implementation, and its adaptability to the environment, would allow its use in space construction projects.
All the ducts or pipes necessary in a building can circulate P through the structure, provided that they do not leave the template (Fig 5).
