Abstract

This tensioner comprises a gear box 3 carrying a ring 1 to which a cable is attached. This box contains two bevel gears 4 and 7, one 4 of which is driven by a crank which acts upon its hollow shaft 5 whilst the other 7, mounted on a roller bearing 8, is securely fastened to a screw 6. The screw is surrounded by a tube 10 ending in a sealed joint 11. The screw raises or lowers a nut or piston 13 which is connected by a sealed tube 14 to a second ring 2 to which the other cable is attached. The tube 14 slides with a sealed joint, joint 11, in the first tube 10 and is rotationally blocked by a key 12 which runs in a groove 13.
