Abstract

The machine is mounted on a wheeled chassis and comprises a horizontal turntable conveyor which carries the vegetables through a high pressure water washing zone. The turntable is continuously rotated by geared transmission from a double-acting hydraulic cylinder. A water tank is mounted on the chassis. Wash water drains back into the tank and is recycled to the washing zone via a filter. The water is pref. recycled by a pump with its suction connected to the tank and its deliver to the washing zone via a filter. The tank is pref. partitioned into two compartments, i.e. a sedimentation compartment into which the washing zone drains and a clarified water compartment supplying the pump. By recycling the used washing water, very little fresh water is required. This is partic. useful when the machine is working in the fields far from a water supply.
