Abstract

Modular buildings are assembled using prefabricated panels faced with autoclave cured expanded concrete on each side of a core slab of expanded polystyrene. Typically each of the three constituent layers is about 5 cm thick and the panels are each about 1.5 m wide and 2.5 m tall with opt. openings for doorways or for standard large or small window frames. The expanded slabs may have an apparent density of about 450 kg/m2, having been produced by adding aluminium powder to the mixt to induce hydrogen evolution under alkaline conditions. The panels are assembled using suitable ancillary intermediate, corner or intersection post profiles opt. having interfacial recesses to accommodate elastomeric seal profiles.
