Abstract

Inflatable cushions for use in supporting punctured large-scale tyres, as vehicle jacks, etc. are controlled in their profile when pressurised by selective application of overwound inextensible fibres or reinforced fabrics. Used to control the inflated cushion profile to an optimum shape for e.g. supporting the body of a tyre for a tractor, earth-mover, etc. The windings may be laid up on an extensible casing temporarily supported internally by a core of matl. which may subsequently be removed by e.g. fusion or dissolution, e.g. expanded polystyrene. May be used to make a cylindrical pattern cushion adopt a partially flattened profile to mask that of an industrial tyre section.
