Abstract

The plank is formed of a core (2) made of insulating material to which are glued two longitudinal timber pieces (1) forming the lateral faces of the plank. At the ends, the lateral pieces (1) protrude beyond the insulating core (2), thus creating a free space (3) which is occupied by a timber block (4) whose grain is crossed with respect to that of the longitudinal pieces (1). Thus the heads of the plank, that is to say the parts of the latter which protrude when the planks are fitted into each other, in a crossed manner, are made of solid timber and are connected to the remainder of the plank by the pieces (1) which are integral with the latter.

Description

Madrier composite pour la construction de chalets.Composite plank for the construction of chalets.

The present invention relates to a composite log; site for the construction of chalets, constituted by a core of insulating material interposed and glued between two longitudinal pieces of wood forming the lateral faces of the plank.

Such composite planks are known per se. They have the advantage of having high insulating qualities both from a thermal and a sound point of view.

The construction of chalets using planks is carried out by engaging the planks, previously notched at their ends, one inside the other. The disadvantage: composite planks resides in the fact that the planks heads, that is to say their end parts located beyond their crossing points, when they are assembled, are themselves composite, this which is unsightly. It is moreover unfavorable for the insulating material to be directly exposed to the weather.

An attempt has been made to resolve this problem by providing such composite planks with solid wooden heads attached to the main plank body. However, such a solution has the disadvantage that the heads are not securely fixed since they do not form a body with the plank, so that the solidity of the very assembly of the planks is thus compromised.

The object of the present invention is to provide a solution to this problem. This goal is achieved by the means claimed.

The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of part of a composite plank for the construction of chalets.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section along its median plane.

The fig-. 3 is an end view taken from the right of FIG. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of part of the log during manufacture.

The plank shown comprises two longitudinal pieces of wood 1, extending over its entire length, each formed from two glued boards 1a and 1b, and which constitute the lateral faces of the plank. A core 2 of insulating plastic, formed for example of expanded polyurethane foam with closed pores, is interposed between the two side pieces 1 to which it is bonded. As shown in figs. 2 and 4, this core 2 of insulating material does not extend to the ends of the side pieces 1, the latter slightly exceeding it. The free space thus provided between the extremi-ties of the two parts 1, visible in FIG. 4 where it is designated by 3, is occupied by a wooden stud 4 formed by three boards 4a, 4b and 4c, glued to each other, and which is itself glued to the side pieces 1.

The height of the side pieces 1 is greater than that of the core 2 so that there is still room, above and below the latter, for two longitudinal pieces of wood 5, glued to the core 2 and parts 1, which form the upper and lower faces of the plank. These pieces 5 have the length of the core 2, the studs 4 at the end of the plank having the height of the pieces 1.

As shown by the dashed lines in fig. 2, which represent the two notches 6 which are formed later in the vicinity of the ends of the plank to allow the cross assembly of several of them, these notches are made at the level of the ends of the core 2 of the plank and are adjacent studs 4. It should be noted that, more generally, the notches 6 will be made by the carpenter on the construction site and not by the manufacturer of the plank.

It results from this arrangement that the heads of the planks, that is to say the part located beyond the notches, are perfectly connected to the body thereof since the side pieces 1 extend from end to end of the plank , ensuring the connection with said heads. The latter are made of solid wood, but the insulation extends to the right of the crosses of the planks, so that there are no thermal or phonic bridges at the said crossings.

It should be noted that, more generally, it will be the two ends of the plank which will be provided with solid wooden heads. We can however foresee the case where only one of the ends of the plank will include such a head. This will be, for example, the case when the log should not extend over the entire length of the facade of the chalet, but only over part of it, as is the case when the log is located at right a door or a window, in particular.
