Abstract

The disc brake shoe consists of a back plate (12) carrying the brake pad (13). The pad contains grooves (14) which collect the dust created due to braking. At each end of the shoe, on the back plate extensions, are fitted scraper pads (17) of rubber. These are initially slightly thinner than the brake pad but after several braking operations the thicknesses are the same. The lateral surfaces of the scraper pads are spaced from the friction pad to present a curved front profile (of a semi-circular or V-section), to direct mud away from the braking surface.

Description

The invention relates to an improved brake shoe, in particular a disc brake, particularly intended for equipping all-terrain vehicles; the main object of the invention is to significantly reduce the wear of the friction lining.

It has been found that the wear of the friction linings, especially in a disc brake, does not only depend on the frequency of braking. The invention follows from the study of the causes of premature wear of these friction linings. This study made it possible to highlight the harmful role of the mud which can come to be lodged in the laminar space defined between the friction lining and the disc; this cause of wear, independent of braking, being particularly important on an all-terrain vehicle. Indeed, we know that the distance between the disc and the friction lining, the brake being released, is only a few tenths of a millimeter and that this space is very little protected.

Consequently, if the vehicle is traveling on soggy ground, mud can become lodged between the disc and the friction lining and it has been found that this mud could form an extremely abrasive mixture with the dust of the linings, accelerating significantly. wear of the same lining The invention aims to solve this problem.

In this spirit, the invention therefore relates to a brake shoe of the type comprising a support base and a friction lining block mounted on said base, characterized in that it comprises at least one scraper means mounted in the vicinity of a end of said friction lining block, the height of this scraper means being substantially equal to the thickness of said friction lining block.

Thus, most of the mud which could become lodged in the space between the disc and the facing surface of the friction lining is deflected by the presence of this means forming a scraper and the rotating disc is cleaned by it. , in particular with each braking. This scraper means can be made of metal, rubber or plastic; all of these materials are much more resistant to the abrasive action of the dusting packing mixture than the packing block itself, which tends to crumble. In addition, said scraper means can take very diverse forms as will be seen below. The principle of the invention is easily adaptable to crown brakes.

Referring more particularly to Figures 1 and 2, there is shown a brake shoe 11 essentially consisting of a support base 12 carrying on one of its faces a friction lining block 13. In known manner, this block comprises several grooves 14, intended to be positioned vertically or in a secant position on the surface of the track, after assembly, for the evacuation of powdery residues originating from the disintegration of the material constituting said friction lining, at each braking. Unfinished ends 15
a and 15b of the base 12 are provided with threaded holes 16, for mounting and fixing the shoe. In accordance with the principle of the invention, a scraper means 17 is mounted on the base 12 on the same side as the lining. friction 13 and in the extension thereof, that is to say on the unfinished end 15 and / or
a no 15b In the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2, this scraper means consists of a block of rubber or plastic with similar mechanical properties, substantially in the shape of a half moon, conforming to the profile of the end not garnished (15a or 15b) corresponding. In addition, the height h of this piece of rubber or plastic is substantially equal to the thickness e of the friction lining block 13. More specifically, in the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, the height h is, originally slightly less than the thickness e so that the friction lining 13 actually meets the disc (not shown) from the first braking. Then, after a few brakes, the thickness e decreases to the height h so that the friction lining and the scraper means 17 then wear out simultaneously. Preferably, the rubber block 17 constituting said scraper means is overmolded and bonded to the end of the base 12.

Figures 3 and 4 show another embodiment in which the scraper means has a completely different shape since it is constituted by a metal part 19 having a V-shaped front profile (the wall 20 of the part 19 against which will be received the mud driven by the rotating disc). The wall 20 which also has a thickness h (FIG. 4) is perpendicular to a base plate 21 which has two lower portions 22 in the form of rivets; these ri vets constituting the means for fixing the base 12 to the end 15
a (or at the end 15b).

FIGS. 5 and 6 show another embodiment in which the scraper means essentially consists of a sheet metal part 25, flexible, bent on itself and fixed by rivets 26 at the end 15a of the base 12. The part 25 is fixed to the base so as to have a free edge 27 substantially at the same level as the surface 28 of said friction lining block 13. The curved sheet metal part 25 is oriented so that this free edge 27 is distant from the end of the friction lining block 13. It is easy to see that with a system such as that illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6, the angle ottFig. 6) formed by the two parts of the curved sheet metal part 25, will gradually decrease as the friction lining 13 wears.

Referring now to the embodiment of Figures 7 and 8, we see that the scraper means consists essentially here of a buttress 30 of protective material (for example a metal part having the shape shown) laterally matching the shape of the end 31 of the friction lining block 13 over substantially its entire thickness e. The buttress 30 therefore has a wavy shape corresponding to the profile of the end 31 and it also has curved end portions 32 engaged inside the friction lining block 13. In addition, the fixing of the scraper means is also provided by two fixing lugs 33, perpendicular to the wall constituting the buttress and traversed by respective rivets 34, mounted in the thickness of the base 12.

Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments which have just been described, it includes all the technical equivalents of the means involved if these are in the context of the following claims.
