Abstract

The remotely operated connector strap is for overhead tubular conductors, normally carried between ten and fifteen metres above the ground and carrying 250kV to 400kV, their diameter being 120mm and 200mm. The strap (13) which may be a multilayer insulator is flexible and fixed at one end to a hook (36) articulated on a tapped block (11) which also carries a further hook (36) to which the free end of the strap is attached when in place over the conductor. The block also carries a shoe (25) shaped to follow the conductor surface and allows attachment of a conductor to ground the overhead conductor etc. Once attached to the conductor by operation of a line (47) from the strap a bolt (15) through the block is turned remotely to force the shoe against the conductor.
