Abstract

The prefabricated filler panel may span the flanges of precast inverted 'T' or 'L' section beams in suspended floor slab construction. It comprises a composite slab of a layer of polystyrene bonded to a layer of concrete. The concrete is of a closed cell variety and forms a relatively thick soffit layer incorporating rebates for notching onto beam flanges. The bonding of the polystyrene is effected by direct contact during the setting and curving of the concrete, concrete aggregates including expanded products or spheroids of foamed plastics. During fabrication the polystyrene layer may be utilised as a permanent form to the concrete which is cast upside down.
