Abstract
Ground is sealed via a very liq. slurry obtd. by mixing water, cement, lime, and colloidal clay; and a cpd. may be added to the slurry to accelerate setting. The sealing of the ground will depend on its structure, i.e. if the ground is very porous, the slurry will penetrate to a great depth. Conversely, if the permeability of the ground is low, the slurry will seal an increased area. Colloidal clay is pref. bonded to the ground via the lime and cement binders; and the lime in the mixt. restricts the shrinkage occurring on setting. The lime also ensures that the mixt. bonds to calcareous earth, whereas the cement ensures bonding with siliceous earth.
