Abstract

The sprung socket accepts a single male plug electrode. The socket is suitable for most applications, including domestic use, and consists basically of three parts. A sprung rectangular metal strip(3) is trapped between an upper(2) and lower(1) plate each having an integral half cylinder(10, 11) facing inwards the upper cylinder continuing the entrance hole(20) in the top plate for the male electrode. The sides of the strip are held by two slotted pillars(8, 9) attached to the base. The strip has a slot cut part way across its width with its centre section pressed out in opposite directions above and below the slot forming with the half cylinders(10, 11) a complete female electrode. The diameter of the sprung section is slightly less than that of the plug to provide good electrical contact.
