Abstract

An oscillator (G) imposes a 2-3 kHz signal on a circuit loop containing a reference electrode (Q) in the battery. The potential of the output of a high pass filter indicates whether or not the electrode is immersed in the electrolyte. Acting in a similar fashion, a parallel circuit produces a voltage which indicates the existence and level, compared with a reference threshold, of any leak to earth in the battery circuit. Reference voltage circuit and voltage comparators monitor the battery terminal voltage via the potentiometer chain. The battery charge state is indicated by a switching circuit and delay circuits so that sustained departures beyond the upper and lower thresholds can be signalled. All circuit conditions are indicated by LED's (V1-V5) fed by a constant current source (Z).
