Abstract
The station to control the level of a watercourse utilises a pivoting gate which is automatically lowered when a given water level is exceeded, and includes a braking mechanism which ensures gradual gate movement. The gate is set transversely in a rectangular section channel of reinforced concrete and pivots about a horizontal invert axis, being connected by cable to the drum of a hand winch. When the water level rises a float is lifted, causing the upward motion of a friction member relative to a wheel. The wheel is coupled to a pinion which en-meshes with a winch drum pinion, the latter now being free to rotate and allow gate descent. The pinion also drives a hydraulic rotary pump which provides the braking effect by impelling fluid in one direction through a restrictor to a reservoir.
